I also thought it was a good match. It lacked a little of the luster that we normally associate with an A & M/Texas match, but they are both still pretty good teams. The Aggies had a couple of chances to get back in the match, but let them get away. You don't really get too many bites at the apple and either John or Lester was going to have to make a big comeback to get it done. Props to Ryan for continued great play, Khalid for winning big at three and Matt for stepping up against a fifth year senior at four. I thought Texas played well, with emotion, and Simon made some big shots in his match with Lester. It was good to see Rocket and a good number of Texas fans who attended. On to Kansas City.

The other point I was going to make is that our depth continues to be a real problem. When Ante went down, it really impacted our line up. That is the nature of sport, and those things happen. Hopefully next year the problem will be resolved.

Why all the deleted posts, Rocket? Are you taking back your apology for being a jack*** at the match? To think I defended you here on the boards to others. What I saw of you on Saturday just showed me your true colors. Ranting and raving about us Aggies being "crybabies" and "losers"...words directly out of your mouth as you lumbered back and forth between courts. Then the whole thing with you calling Lester a "stupid idiot" and getting called down by your coach. I have no problem with you yelling your lungs out for your players...but don't come to our place and call our guys idiots.

On the match...doubles killed us. What's up with that lineup? I know Ante was sick. Still, he played well enough that he should have been matched up with Kalid at number 3 doubles, with Ryan and Lester at 1, Matt and Jon at 2. At least we would have had a chance. In singles, not sure why Texas flipped there 1 and 2 guys...I heard it was due to Simon having a sprained ankle. Watched his match...didn't look too sprained to me. Still, I have no problem with thay change. If Lester would have been on top of his game and won the first set, the outcome may have been different. However, Simon played well and earned the win. Nallon and Fenner had almost no chance to win. Gubser for Texas is like Kahlid...he may no be the most talented player on the courts, but he finds a way to win. Cameron was just over-matched. Great win for Khalid....that kid killed Ante at the Texas Cup, and Khalid took him 6-2,6-2. Matt pulled out a huge win! Dropping the first set and being down 3-0 in the second and coming back to win....huge! Ryan played well enough to win. I think that is probably the best I've seen Zarhi play. He really stepped up his game to match Ryan's. Newport finally figured him out and closed out the game in the 3rd set.

All in all, it was a good match. It lacked the usually luster of an A&M/Texas match. The fans for both teams were lifeless and the play on the courts reflected that. Hopefully we can get it fixed for the Big 12's in KC.

Pretty good analysis of the match Sherlock. I have been to every home match this year and though the doubles match up struggled early on the pairing of Ante and Lester, Ryan and Khalid, John and Loucks or Fenner has been the most productive. Why the coaches fooled around with this against Texas is a question that has asked by many. We certainly had quite a discussion about it at the after match tailgate.

A key to doubles is teamwork, Lester should have stayed with Ante, Lester playing with Loucks, who does not like to play doubles (obvious from his lack luster performance in any doubles match, but is a different player in singles), was a formula for a loss. After 2 games, Loucks stops playing doubles, can't volley, is afraid to come to the net. Lester was confused and did not know how to compensate for this play he is not used to. Opponents learn to hit to Loucks, because he can't volley and will make the most errors.

Our best doubles players are Ryan, Ante, Lester and John. John was not in the lineup, our weakest doubles players are, Loucks and Fenner.
Khalid is ok, but needs a strong doubles partner to fire him up, like Ryan. They have been successful.

Fenner plays much better with Nallon than Loucks does, so the best chance in my opinion would have been:

Ante and Lester on 1, Ryan and Khalid on 2 and John and Cameron on 3. However, we essentially gave up the doubles point before the matches started with the lineup the coaches put out there. In such a close match, the doubles is a very key point, and from history the singles with Texas goes 3 and 3.

And why put Nallon against Gubser? they know each other too well, give Gubser a new look, send Fenner against him, Nallon had a better match up with Line 5, where Fenner was overwhelmed.

Bad coaching against Texas in my opionion. The doubles set the tone. When they walked out on the court, we started wondering what was up with the doubles pairing and before one point was played, we concluded the match ups were not going to work. No chemistry, it takes time to build doubles team chemistry and Cass spit them all up. Talent can not always prevail.

quite the opposite, in my opinion. while khaled is not a doubles specialist by any means, he is the spark plug of ANY tandem. when he plays with ryan, newp counts on khaled to fire him up, while khaled relies on newp to pick up the slack with bigger serves, better size, and more intimidating court presence.

though this is a better lineup than the one we used, putting ryan/lester or ante/lester at one and ryan/khaled or ante/khaled at three would have GUARANTEED the doubles point. put jessica roland and roberta spencer at two, or anyone else for that matter. we haven't counted on two dubs all year, why start now?

all in all a tough match, one that we could have won easily...but we can't dwell on it. revenge on t.u. and baylor in kc would make us forget all about this match.

I had second thoughts concerning the original post. That is it. I stated my thoughts on the "Exit" post . I see no need to post on this site in the future. I disagreed with the call that started it all and things began to get out of hand. Enough..I will move on...

I must confess I have shown my back side on more than one occassion when questioning a call. I have always enjoyed taking tennis with Rocket, if we can't do it on the net, I guess we will have to do it in person a couple of times a year.

Raven....you are a good guy and i enjoyed visiting with you a little last weekend. Losing control of ones passion can be alittle overwhelming. As I said previously....I regret it and will always enjoy visiting with you about college tennis. I am not sure what Tim was thinking concerning the doubles last weekend. I know both of you, Reb and Rocket, and both of you should put on one of those sumo wrestling suits and go at it. However, knowing the size of both of you, you guys might not need the suits afterall. Reb...shut up and clean up your language on the boards. Rocket may have pi$$ed us off at the Texas match, but lighten up on the personal attacks. Generally, Rocket is a decent guy and will not stoop to your level of insults, so drop it.
