I know it makes things fair sometimes to have an automatic bid, but when we play schools like UMBC it isnt fair to them. They have played one team whos ranked and got killed. Who agrees they should have another tourn. like basketball, NIT for tennis

Was it fair to Hampton (#15 seed) when they beat Iowa St. (#2 seed) in March Madness a couple of years ago?

I think Baylor is well aware of the strength of the automatic bids. UTA took Baylor to the last match standing before Baylor won 4-3. Maybe the closest first round match for a seeded team in tourney history?

Where is Becker, where is Becker?? I don't think he was "resting." You don't "rest" Becker when you already have Papp out with the hand injury.

as a coach, i love the automatic bids. i know it takes some schools out that are better, but it makes the entire college tennis credibility better. its awesome for those teams to be able to play at A&M or wherever. in the long run you will see these teams get better and better, and eventually it will be like the ncaa basketball tourny and you will see some upsets. i am at the waco regional and baylor got very lucky playing without becker and papp. i would have loved to play uta today. papp is really hurt and becker is "hurt and resting" i am sure they will both be in the lineup despite the health, just to keep their weak guys out of the lineup. i think we have a chance to see the ags in athens, but i have to believe that. like i predicted usf beat uga and will give you guys a tough match. you should win the dbls and at the top, but it will be tough at the bottom. good luck

I understand what you mean about automatic bids, but there will also be schools like Southwest Texas who sometimes get those auto bids but still cut the tennis program. I think it is fair that they go somewhere for winning the conference, but is the NCAA's really the place, thats all I mean. I think it should go off the omni's or something. The top 64 teams in the nation, if it is like that the bottom teams will get better and not cut from their schools. No school likes to fund a team whos 60 in the nation and doesnt make the NCAA's. Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the nation right now, yet, not all schools in the big 12 even have teams. I could understand smaller schools, but the big 12 doesnt have a small school.
