Looks like some of the early results weren't taken into account for seeding purposes. Aggies are seeded #15 against #2 USC. USC are the four time defending champions, which is amazing consistency for tennis.
USC is 9-0 this season, only dropping a maximum of one point to UC Irvine, San Francisco, Loyola Marymount, and Stanford. UC Irvine, Loyola Marymount, and San Francisco were all double header days which typically don't mean much. Against Stanford, their only dropped point came from their number 4 player, and only freshman on the roster.
Going by the most recently released rankings and their line-up against Stanford, their line-up will look something like this:
1 - Emilio Gomez (#10)
2 - Yannick Hanfmann (#94)
3 - Roberto Quiroz (#23)
4 - Max de Vroome (#109)
5 - Eric Johnson (#46)
6 - Michael Grant (#117)
Other players they have ranked include: Ray Samiento (#12) and Jonny Wang (#118).
For comparison, we have Shane Vinsant (#67), Jackson Withrow (#100), and Harrison Adams (#124).
I know rankings don't mean that much this early in the season, but it's all we have to go off of so far. Going to be an even tougher match than Ohio State, but given the play so far, anything is possible. Would be another monumental upset given the recent success of USC.
Second round match-up would either be Miss State (10 seed) or Kentucky (7 seed), which will be an early preview of SEC action. Third round match up is also a 3/4 chance to see another SEC school. Ole Miss (12 seed), Tennessee (14 seed), and Georgia (6 seed). Only SEC school not in the bottom bracket is Florida (11 seed).
