Definitely a rough morning for the Ags. Some of the girls can't let this first bad swim affect the rest of the meet.
400 medley relay looked good except for Lili, 49.10 on the free....have to be much faster than that to contend for the title. Perhaps Erica will swim on it instead?
All things considered the morning was terrible. I don't know if Henry badly miscalculated the time needed for the A final or if she doesn't "have it" today. She can do no better than 9th now no matter how fast she swims tonight.
Every swim was slower than seed for us except Breeja's two swims. She split 57.55, by far the best breaststroke split today.
Henry could have been thrown off by the slow pacing of the heat. The winner of her heat is only seeded 7th in the final. Just very unfortunate...
Not sure what's up with Adams. She's had trouble in this race before at NCAA's (last year) but came back strong the rest of the meet. Hopefully that's the case this year as well.
Good for Germain to make finals in the 1M. Hopefully this will get some momentum going!
This is not personal nor intended to harp on any person. Just observations comparing to recent performance.
Bosma - slower than her times from SECs. We really need 22low in the relay. Ibanez - was slow this morning. We need a much better 100 on the medley relay tonight than 49.10. I think we have a chance to win this relay but we need Ibanez in the 47s. Dittmer - solid swims; best split on the 200 free relay; good 200 IM Henry - either a bad swim or a badly managed swim; it is always better to make the A final and swim tired than not make it McLaine - decent swim; suggests she was tapered at SECs Adams - a poor swim in the 500. She should have been in the A final. McElhany - an OK swim. Her seed time would have put her in the A final. But she missed it for 9th. Miller - solid 200 IM. We need her best on the 400 medley relay. Breeja - her 50 free was faster than seed; her breaststroke split on the relay was outstanding St. Germain - very solid prelims; no bad dives at all; some favorites dove badly
It looks so far like the distance group is having problems. Maybe Henry miscalculated and will blow away the B final. But it is costly in points. I have no clue what happened with Adams.
(some distance swimmers do not taper well - oddly enough they can swim fast with a bit of rest but not so well with a lot of rest).
Breeja is swimming fast. I think a sub 57 split in the relay is possible tonight.
Cal did not use Cindy Tran on their medley relay. Just using Cindy Tran on backstroke tonight will knock 2 secs off their time. I'd say Cal wins this.
I noticed Becca is listed in the dive list for 3M and Platform. So at Zones, if a diver qualifies in one event, they are allowed to contest the other two at the NCAAs?
FF03: as long as they competed in the other events at zones yes. If Becca is entered in platform, that would be an error since she does not dive platform.
That has to be an error. I understand that if you qualify for NCAAs, you can dive any board you also dove at Zones. Since St. Germain didn't dive the platform at Zones, she can't dive it at NCAAs.
The girls swam a decent 200 medley relay a few minutes ago. Steve is juggling looking for the best combination. Ibanez doesn't have it so far - so Dittmer anchored. Breeja was relatively slow at 26.72. Both Molly Hannis and Kasey Carlson outsplit her. Paige, even with a relatively slow start, had the 2nd fastest fly split. Great swim by her.
We will see soon if Henry and Adams are OK or not with the 400 IM in the water now.
It was a much better morning today. Not sure why - but it could be that the girls just swam closer to their potential and remembered how fast you have to be at the NCAAs.
Henry was probably mad when she swam her 400 IM this morning.
Cammille swam a much better 400 IM than her 500 yesterday. I liked here 27.27 last 50 split which is the fastest of field. That suggests she had something in the tank and could push it tonight.
Miller swam three times this morning. Her medley relay split was excellent. Her 100 fly was solid, and her 100 back was very good.
McElhany's 100 fly suggests she just doesn't have speed right now.
Ibanez did a great job to get in the 200 free A final with a lifetime best. She has to swim that twice tonight - adding the 800 free relay
Breeja's 100 breast was really good too. Not far from her American Record. The girls that outsplit her in the 200 medley relay didn't swim as well. Breeja's 2nd 50 was half a second faster than Carlson.
Kellie Benjamin had a great 200 free - very close to making the B final.
McLaine had a solid 200 free swim. Her last 50 is always so fast - she seems to hold back a bit too much in the middle of the race. I bet Steve talks to her about that all the time.
Simpson had a great 100 back - took it out even faster than Miller and we have two in the A final.
McGregor a bit off in the 100 breast. But the field is very fast overall and she just doesn't have 100 speed. I hope she has 200 speed tomorrow.
It was a great morning for the Ags. Good to see some of the girls really step up and get some momentum going.
I was especially impressed by Benjamin. She had a tough 200 free/100 back double but did really well by going best times.
Great to see Simpson make that A final with Paige.
Not sure what's up with McElhany...her fly split on the relay last night was a 53.0. This morning was better but not good enough.
Cammile, Sarah, and Breeja should all do well tonight. Hannis from Tennessee not making the final was the biggest surprise of the morning for me. Considering her 57 split on the relay. Oh well, that just leaves one less person to threaten Breeja! (not that she's not going to blow the field away anyway)
McElhany may not be 100% healthy. I have no information. Just guessing. She is a superb clutch swimmer (see Olympic Trials) so if she is not at her best there is a reason. She is better at the 200 fly.
I had been disappointed in Ibanez until her 200 free today. Really glad to see that PB today. I hope she can bring it tonight. She has a messy freestyle that looks soooo tiring.
St. Germain didn't have a good day, like a lot of divers. Figueroa didn't either. The Texas girls were off too - and they had a strpng Big12 and Zones meet. Each of these divers had at least one "miss" where they scored 3s or 4s. Just can't do that with this kind of quality in the field.
I hope Henry, Adams, Miller, and Larson can all swim lights out tonight. It would be awesome to go into Saturday with some great swims behind them.

Girls up to fifth place. A great morning session tomorrow can put them into position to fight Zona for fourth. Unlikely that anyone passes Georgia/Tennessee/Cal for a spot in the top three.
Could really see Tennessee winning this thing, their divers are keeping them up with the big dogs/Dawgs. It could come down to the last relay, which would be an exciting end to an underwhelming meet overall.
