At 6:30 on May 17 - 3 Texas A&M students(Scott McCormick, Will Stevenson, and Amanda Hoffman) on their way to the Collegiate All Stars Waterski tournament in North Carolina had a very serious accident in Mississippi. Scott and Will were in front and belted in, but Amanda was asleep in the back seat without a seat belt. Amanda was ejected when the vehicle rolled 2 1/2 times. She's currently in a coma in critical condition. Scott has a fractured vertebrate in his back. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers. A fund for Amanda's medical expenses is set up with more info on Facebook.

There are several fundraising attempts being made to help the family with medical bills. I posted this in AO, so I figured I would put it in this thread too rather than making a new one

Hey y'all...some sad news about one of our own new Aggie graduates and her family needs our help

Amanda Hoffman is a member of the Texas A&M waterski team and was recently in a very bad car accident last Friday. She is currently in a coma with brain damage at the University of Mississippi neurology critical care unit and her family has medical bills stacking up. The medical bills are going to be extensive, so a donation page has been set up to try and reach a goal of $100,000 to help her family out. It is very easy to donate (no signing up required) and any amount helps. Currently over $12,000 has been donated in just 3 days! Even if you cannot donate, please keep her and her family in your prayers during this critical time.

Donation page:

Tshirts are also being made to help increase fundraising and 100% of the profit will go straight to the family to help with bills. They are trying to sell 250 at $20 a piece by June 4th with over 130 reserved already.

Here is a little bio of Amanda from the donation page as well just so you can get to know her a bit.

quote:

Amanda Hoffman is a 23 year old spring 2013 graduate of Texas A&M University. She is enrolled to begin her first year at the University of Houston Law School in the fall. Amanda is best known for her vibrant, energetic and highly contagious personality. If you know Amanda you are a better person because of it. She will inspire you. Her laugh is one of a kind and puts a smile on your face as soon as you hear it...you just can't help but laugh with her.

Among several other attributes, Amanda has a serious knack for fashion, writing, and all things wedding. She spent an entire summer writing for Southern Bride magazine in Nashville, TN. But don't let her girly side fool you as she is just as talented when it comes to extreme sports. Amanda is a fierce competitor on the Texas A&M Waterski team where she has served as club Captain for nearly 4 years. She loves traveling and especially favors South Africa where she spent an entire semester in school while volunteering her time teaching children at the Kayamandi township. Amanda realized her goal of becoming a lawyer during her time with the local children. She saw this as the best way for her to benefit others in need. It is probably one of the easiest decisions she has ever had to make as it completely suits her stong willed, highly motivated, no compromise disposition.

Amanda's an all around gifted person who is loved and cherished by everyone's life that she touches. When you look up the phrase "live every moment to it's fullest" you will see Amanda Hoffman's name.

Please keep Amanda, her family and the special team of doctors and nurses in your thoughts and prayers.
