What a gutsy performance by the ladies.
They lost the doubles point, where not even the last team was leading after the first two lost.
They then won 5 of the 6 first singles set. But at the #2 line after winning the first set 6-2, we won only 1 game in the next two sets to lose there.
We lost at the 5 line in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. However, we won in straight sets at the #1, #3, and #6 lines.
So it came down to Ines Dehez at the #4 line. She won the first set 6-3, but dropped the second in a tie breaker 6-7 (9-11!!!!). In the 3rd set at one point she was down 2 - 4 and 0 - 40 with the UCLA lady serving. Unbelievably, she took the next 5 points to win that game and then won the last 3 games to clinch the set 6 - 4.
I watched on the internet telecast, and it was one of the most nerve wracking matches ever. Inez basically plays from the baseline and tried to return everything deep. The UCLA player clearly wanted to come to the net, but couldn't often get there. Neither player was forcing the other with their serve, but there were only 3 service breaks in the last set - 2 for Inez.
I'm not sure what the ladies have left for tomorrow, but you've got to think this will be a great chance for them.
Gig 'em, ladies.
