The biggest problem with giving Track and Field its own forum is that it actually gives the Track and Field teams less exposure. For example, while I do root for Aggie Soccer, I am not a big soccer fan in general. I rarely go to that forum when it is in season and pretty much never when it is not. Very little of that thread has anything to do with the Aggie Soccer Team. If the threads on the Aggie Soccer Team showed up here, I would probably read them and be more informed about the team. The Aggie Soccer Team actually gets less publicity from Aggies that are not big soccer fans because it is in its own forum so very causal fans don't ever click on the soccer forum. (This is offset by the publicity they get from being in the same forum as National, MLS, and European soccer fans). But Track and Field doesn't have another following that would offset the loss of Other Sports Fans. You get more publicity by being grouped together.
The reason to give a forum out is because all of the posts the topic generates quickly pushes other topics off the top page. If football was in the other sports forum, threads on other sports would get quickly pushed off the top page and lost. You give football its own forum not for football, but so other sports aren't immediately pushed off the page and lost.
