First scheduled head-to-head matchup between A&M and Texas since A&M joined the SEC will be in women's swimming.

Glad to see it. This was one of the best parts of the rivalries the last 5 years or so.

Good stuff. I know their men's program is solid, what about their women's?

The women are solid as well, very solid.

Hoping this leads to more match ups and some of higher-ups and never want to play them again crowd realizing the sun isn't going to explode if the Aggies and Longhorns matchup with each other.

In fact, it might result in good, competitive games/meet/matches and shoot, they might even enjoy themselves watching them.

Does DeLo$$ know this is going to happen or is it a secret?

The secret here is that Bultman and Capitani (Texas coach) used to work together at Georgia. Coaching staffs are much more friendly toward each other than just about anywhere else in this rivalry.

Texas women are not quite as good over the last decade as the Texas men, but have the same impressive history.

That is great news. The A&M women swimmers should not have a problem with the Texas women right now. But the Texas divers will trounce the Ags.

Any news on our recruiting class?

I don't think their women's AD, Chris Plonsky, has the same bitter taste in her mouth over A&M. DeLoss can try to throw his weight around, he can make threats, he can whine about it, but he's ultimately limited in his influence over the women's S&D program.

I know their softball coach has a lot of respect for A&M, I'm hoping something can be worked out there.

I think Deloss is still the man at Texas and had the final say on things, especially money.Plonsky is her own stubborn self, especially when it comes to hiring coaches ( always female). My guess it's Capitani wanted the meet to show that she isn't afraid of going against the best team is Texas.

pretty sure the last head coach a texas women's team hired was a male but spicewood said always so i must be wrong

and there was plenty of jawing back-and-forth, but not so much as to diminish the respect (between the swimmers at least) on the different teams.

AGBlastoff-

This is what I want to hear about. Surely somebody has some good stories about the two teams talking it up to each other. Which Aggie did the most jaw-jacking?

The last coach Texas hired was the head track coach - a man. Previously they had Bubba Thornton (men) and Bev Kearney (women). Now they have a single head coach and assistants. I don't think Plonsky has hired a male coach.

Oh - it was Plonsky that wanted to give Kearney a $170K raise before she was fired.

You heard it here first: Aggie divers will be sneaky good this year. Good new talent plus a healthy Kathryn Connolly will surprise some folks.

Women's basketball teams are playing each other in some tournament in November.

Ah, I see that on the Longhorns' website.

The tournament down in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Maybe they can fly down there together.

I don't think it will be long before the other non revenue sports follows suit. It just doesn't make any sense to not play quality competition <2 hours away.

Swim swam doesn't list this years class in their preseason review. The girls have a large class coming in with a good diver and one of the fastest girls in Europe. The last time the girls had a large class, it worked out with several All Americans. We will see soon enough.

ladybird - Swim swam made several requests to A&M to share their class, but couldn't get any information. As is stated in the original ranking post, ranks can only be done on information that is made available.

Put that one on the sports information department.

They just don't get it sometimes, do they? They'll write about Breeja and Cammille, but don't want to help Swimswam write about the Ags.

The "buzz" is a very powerful force in swimming. The women's team kinda has it. The men's - none at all.

Hopefully the girls can get some buzz on the preseason rankings of the schools. On paper, the Ags should be a strong contender for the number 3 spot in the country. We could have ended the season third last year and we could score even more points this year. I'm sure the ladies are geared up to have the highest ranked team in school history. Good luck ladies.
