I'm always curious with what equipment average (and pro) golfers are using. While I think equipment is important, you can't buy a game and becoming good at golf requires some serious effort. Its still an interesting exercise.

Here's my setup:
Titleist 975D (soon to be reshafted with a Rifle Graphite). I don't use it a great deal since I can hit my 16 degree within 40 yards with fewer mi****s. I also have a Orlimar Trimetal Plus driver at 6.5 I've never hit. Got it off ebay for something like 20 bucks.

Fairway woods: Trimetal Pluses in 16, 20, 22, and 26. The first three have EI-70s on them, and the 26 has a Rifle steel 6.0. The 16 is hands down my best club. I wish I could hit my driver and long irons as well.

Irons -- Mizuno MP-33. Soft feel and workable, though I have a hard time working any of the longer ones. I'm not a scratch, so the blades force me to make sure my swing is good.

Wedges -- Hogan. I really like the feel of these, better than I liked the Apex irons. The irons were OK, but I think the MPs are better. I have the 54 and 60, but my wedge game is NOT anywhere near my strength.

Putter -- Cameron Laguna 2.5. The feel is just fantastic. The ball almost always goes the distance I want it to, but I need to get better reading greens.

Sounds like a good setup:

I put my set together with custom true temper stiff rocket shafts and cut them to be almost and inch and a half longer than standard (golfsmith)

I hit a 6.5 degree older model calloway that I have reshafted twice...currently I have the latest and most popular shaft that tour players use...(graphite design YS-7) calloway 3 wood that I hardly hit b/c I can blast my 2 iron almost as far and distance is not a problem I run into a lot.

I have a snake eyes 55 degree wedge and a odyssey putter.

I have found out over the years that it is not so much your equipment, but rather the person using the equipment that really makes a difference! I will be sporting some new clubs in the near future when I get a job and can afford them. I will look at the mizuno's, taylor made, nike, and possibly one other major brand.

I was a 5 handicap back when I played regularly...now most days I am about a 10 unless I get my flatstick working

Titleist 975 D 10* Driver Steel Reg shaft
Callaway 3 and 5 wood Reg steel
Titleist 4 thru pw 981 irons steel
mizuno 56* SW
Ben Hogan blade putter (old but it works for me)
I have a Callaway Steelhead III
driver in the mail. When it gets here I might put a graphite shaft in it. I hit a graphite Taylor made last Sunday. I really like the graphite. It made me slow down abit.

On a side note.
It’s never too early to start planning so here goes. I will be in flying into CS this year with some friends for Thanksgiving. We are going to stay through the weekend and would like to get some golf in on Thanksgiving. Are any of the area courses open? And what is open in town for food and drink? The hotel (Ramada) might cover food and drink. If not we can stock up the day before. Thank you for your help.

I demoed, then bought three vokey wedges and replaced my Hogans. For some strange reason, even though the Vokeys are technically cast and the Hogans are forged, the Vokeys (to me) have a better feel -- at least in the Nickel finish. Also, the Titleist swing weight feels better.

And I'm nowhere near a 10, but I hope to be there on my way to scratch by mid-2006.

putter: Scotty Cameron Studio Stainless

irons: Titleist 762 DCIs 3-PW

wedges: Titleist Vokeys 52, 56, 60 degree (400 series) prefer the feel to the 200 series

Woods: Taylor Made Ti-Bubble 2s (Driver and 5 wood) and Taylor Made Firesole 3 wood

Yes, I realize my woods are fairly out of date, but whenever I get an itch to replace them I start hitting them great again.
