Kicks off tomorrow. 3 days of fun swimming\diving at home this year. Men get LSU/TCU/SMU/Air Force, Women have Stanford/LSU/TCU/SMU.

We know the women always produce some incredible times at an invite meet each year, interested to see if the men change anything up from their more recent strategy for fall invites.

Heard the men might suit up. Not sure if they rested at all.

It would be weird to suit up without some rest. Shaving too?

The times so far are fast and promising. Very impressed with the lady sprinters. Ibanez 22.29, Dittmer 22.42, Bosma 22.57. Breeja put up a nice 22.74.

Troskot's 19.8 is a very solid time.

Cammille's 500 is 4 secs off the A cut. She went 4:35 at this time last year. Henry a bit behind her at 4:46 (Henry swam a 4:33 last year).

Those are right about the prelim times Adams and Henry went last year.

The men swam pretty fast this morning. I'd say they rested for this.

Bolleter needs a much faster first 25 to get under 20.

This is also Henry's first meet of the season, I believe. Expecting her to equal the second-fastest collegiate 500 free ever might be asking a little much at this point when considering her time off. The good news is she's back in the competition pool and should be fine for when it counts in March.

LOB - I never said Henry should be faster today than she was. I know she hasn't raced for some time. I noticed she scratched 200 IM. Her 500 time was solid. She may have to get her NCAA cuts at SECs.

Breeja's improvement in the 50 free is impressive. She could find herself on the A 200 free relay soon.

Breeja blistered the field in 100 breast this morning with a 58.29. Not sure why she was so much slower in the 400 medley relay last night.

It looks like the Stanford girls generally hold back more in prelims than the Aggies. The two Stanford breaststrokers both split 59 in the medley relay last night.

Paige had a strong 100 fly and 100 back. I was surprised to see Ibanez swim fly too. Paige is our best 100 fly and 100 back swimmer - but she can't swim both in the relay. So Steve has to put her in back, and is looking for the best flyer.

Nice to see McElhaney back in the pool racing.

Cammille had a strong 400 IM prelim. She'll race Dorado again tonight - I'd expect both to go close to the NCAA A time with Dorado to win.

I want to revisit the women's 200 Free Relay performance for a moment. 1:28.02 is no joke. That's an easy top 8 relay qualifying time at NCAA's each of the past 4 years and would have scored 2nd/T2nd/6th/5th in those meets. Kudos to the staff for taking something perceived as a weakness and developing it into a strength with a group of (at least from a sprint perspective) not so household names.

Yup. That 200 free relay was excellent. The sprinters have come a long way. Breeja ended up on the relay.

Stanford's relays are outstanding all around.

Some really good swims tonight.

In the 200 medley relay again the Aggie girls were barely beaten by Stanford - but still under the A cut.

Dorado whipped the field including Cammille in the 400 IM. Adams is 2 secs off the A cut.

Landau's 100 fly was not far off the A cut and way under the B cut.

Miller's 100 fly was an excellent swim - just beat Felicia Lee. I liked Adams' 100 fly time - her 100s and speed are improving nicely.

Of 9 A&M girls in the 3 200 free finals all but one dropped time from prelims. Ibanez 200 free was an outstanding time - 1:43.75 and an A cut. Ibanez's freestyle looks cleaner and longer to me.

Breeja's 100 breast was off the morning swim. She looked a bit sluggish to me, though still in complete control of the race.

Paige's 100 back was another great swim - A cut and new A&M record. She and Felicia Lee have gone head to head twice tonight and Paige won both by a combined 0.19 secs.

After the football debacle Saturday night it is more fun to talk about the swimmers.

Very impressed that the girls held on to beat a very good Stanford team. Stanford is fast and generally deep across their lineup. Their weaknesses might be breaststroke and distance free. Their relays are fantastic since they won all of them (but not by much except the 800 free relay).

I think A&M's female MVP for the meet was Paige Miller. Ibanez was also outstanding.

For the men the MVP has to be Henrik Landau, who swam lights out.

As far as NCAA qualification goes the women have 4 definite with A cuts (Adams, Ibanez, Larson and Miller), 3 B cuts solidly inside what you would expect to be invited time cutoff (Henry - Mile, Dittmer - 200IM, McGregor - 200BR) and 2 more inside last year's cutoff times but certainly not locks(Bosma - 100FR, Oliver - 200FR).

For the men, Lindau's 100FL would seem to be good enough already but you just never know.

Lindau had a great meet. Can't wait to see how he does at NCs. Troskot seems to be in a good position too. PMS had a 43.4 split. That will help tremendously. How about "Big" Jack Burley with some solid BR splits?

The girl's team is currently ranked #1 in the coach's poll. Have they ever been ranked that high? Many of the girls are ranked in the top 10 individually with their times.

Why is the UT girls coach in charge of US team in Scotland? She has no swimmers and Steve has three. Did Frank Busch make that call?

USA Swimming says:

quote:
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Carol Capitani will take over as head coach of the U.S. women's team for the Duel in the Pool meet next month.

USA Swimming announced Thursday that Capitani is taking the place of Jack Bauerle, who is scheduled for knee-replacement surgery. The longtime University of Georgia coach will be unable to attend the two-day event in Scotland matching all-star teams from the U.S. and Europe.

Capitani is in her second season as the head women's coach at the University of Texas. She will lead an American team featuring Olympic gold medalists Katie Ledecky and Jessica Hardy during the Dec. 20-21 meet in Glasgow, site of next year's Commonwealth Games.

The U.S. is undefeated in the 5-year-old event that includes some of Europe's top swimmers.
