If we win our last regular season game this coming Wednesday, do we have a shot at making the NCAA playoffs with an 18-11 record? If we beat S. Carolina on Wednesday, that would mean we would have won 7 of our last 8, plus our RPI should still be pretty decent. We went 5 sets with Michigan and lost the 5th set by 2 points. Same with our last match with Florida. Will the committee look at stuff like that?

So we beat auburn? 20-10 looks better than 19-11. That LSU match at home shouldn't have gotten away from us. And who knows what the selection committee does in volleyball?

The RPI does not take into account close losses or close wins at all and from the last few years it is the RPI that really makes your case. However our last 10 matches should really help with our cause. Our issues....

1. Very bad stretch mid way thru conference losing to auburn and South Carolina and drooping the LSU match when up 2-0

2. Only one signature win against Florida State but quite a bit of close matches against teams like Florida Kentucky and Michigan

3. Doubtful but if any teams from smaller conferences like Tulsa do not win their conference tourneys could get an at large and take a spot or two

That said we are playing extremely well going into the tourney and for some reason this season the RPI really likes the SEC this year . I think we are in and unfortunately for the second year sent to Texas along with UTSA and Texas State but hopefully the committee will not use regionality that much. If our passing can get solidified we can depending upon the draw get to sweet 16 this year but that will be based upon the draw entirely.

Projected RPI came in today after this weekend and we moved up to #31 which should get us in so long as we don't slip up against horrid RPI South Carolina on Wednesday. While I disagree with the RPI system and like Pablo much better RPI is a MAJOR criteria used.

edit for projected RPI that came out today

Yes, 32 but projected RPI is at the end of the season and is based in part for us winning against South Carolina tomorrow as well as other matches between other teams. #31 would be safe if the committee uses RPI like they tend to do. That said ask the Corbelli's when the last three times a team had been safely in by RPI and not made the tourney. They may not know the third one but the other two I am pretty sure they know

I don't understand why some people think they need to resort to name calling. I agree that longhornhere55 should have probably said that it would "most likely or probably" be a rematch of last year's game, but honestly, I think the only way Texas loses to Texas State is if the whole Texas team comes down with the flu.

Let's just say I'm optimistic.

Both matches tomorrow will be televised live on the Longhorn Network.
