....the Texas Cup match in February? The match would of been a home match for ATM and as I have said before it is a great home court advantage.The biggest crowd of the season was in Austin to watch the match and I have no doubt that the ATM tennis center would of been packed. So why did Tim cancel. Inquiring minds want to know?

It always seems that this is the only win that helps get tu through the year, so maybe coach center can realize that he has a soft schedule and start playing good teams like ATM does.

Rocket: Don't check this board all that often, but I think the coaches talked about this deal and Coach Cass decided not to go forward. As you know they are good friends, and sometimes friends agree to disagree. I think it had something to do with the conference match here last spring.

Raven...I am just disappointed that we are not playing the Texas Cup match. I think that it really promotes college tennis and draws a big mob of people to see two top teams go at it early in the season. It is a shame that he doesnt feel the same way.

And proaggs, just what are you trying to say, seeing that we were 2-0 vs ATM last season.

With only a limited number of non-conference matches, why play a conference member with one of them.

Proposal - A Texas Cup in 2005 where A&M and Texas host a doubleheader against strong competition from other parts of the nation at Westside.

Gap I like the idea of the dual/dual but disagree with the non confrence thing. With the Texas Cup both teams are guarenteed a home match every year aganist a traditional rival.Last seasons cup match in Austin drew the largest crowd of the season with fans of both schools there. That promotes college tennis in a way that cannot be discounted. Reason for that is the exposure the game gets to those who have little to do in Feb where as the traditional late season match always seems to be going on during rival events ....at least in Austin its true. I am not at liberty to discuss reasons here however I am disappointed that cass chose to cancel. Oh well I look forward to the conference match at any rate.Hookem

tu is 2-0 against A&M and about 1- 5 against all other ranked opponennts and were scared to play duke

proaggs... what exactly are you referencing? Did you happen to be in Austin when Duke came calling? Or are you just speculating? If so please refrain from commenting on things you know not of....you will look much smarter.

Rocket...this may help answer your question. The Texas Cup was started to showcase the talent at both A&M and Texas...and both Cass and Center wanted the event to be played at the Westside club in Houston. This happened for the first two years. But Westside lost interest in the event and force them to move the matches to the schools. This was never the intent of the Texas Cup...it was to be played at a neutral site so no team would have a home court advantage. The home court was to be saved for the conference match. Hence, no Westside, no more Texas Cup.

sherlock...i dont agree with that take. The Texas Cup was moved to a home and home to allow both teams to have a home court match and draw big crowds...as it did last season in austin...in fact the largest of the season. The other reason was to promote college tennis and draw attention to an event that occured during a time of the year when it could be showcased. The conference match last season was played at ATM on Easter weekend and the crowd was not up to traditional ATM standards. One thought on the Westside deal. Indeed it was not as attractive to them however that was not the deciding factor. I still cant imagine cass not wanting a home match vs Texas to showcase and even that would promote his program. Oh well we might never know the real reason.

Rocket, I spoke with Coach Center and Coach Cass this weekend and the real reason for dropping the Texas Cup between the two teams is that they have played each other 9 times in 3 years. originally the idea was good to have them play to develop the teams and showcase tennis. However, now with both teams being very successful and likley to meet in the regular season, Big 12 championships and the NCAA tournament, the Texas Cup had to go. They need to play other team that will challenge their programs to help them reach the final 8,4,2..... maybe they will be in the finals one day against each other.

Basically they are tired of playing each other so much. Pure and simple.
