Clemson scored early, but the Ags scored back-to-back goals in less than a minute in the second half to get the 2-1 win. That's a solid start against a ranked opponent.

Sounds like we have a lot to look forward to this year.

This was just an exhibition game. Both teams are still 0-0.

True, it is exhibition, but I would imagine neither team mailed it in because it didn't count in the final win-loss column.

While I understand the coach's temperment that this was only an exhibition (and perhaps I'm ignorant to soccer having not played it in almost 30 years), but isn't a soccer exhibition a little different than a football or basketball exhibition? In the latter two, the coaches are concerned about things like execution, timing, and matchups and not so much about scoring. Soccer is a much simpler (I sade simple, not easy, and I didn't mean any disrespect -- I think it is a fantastic sport) game where most players are going all out to score. The Ags might have played younger players more than the starters, but I have to believe that if you are going all the way to Clemson for a preseason game, the word was out that they wanted to win.

Anyway, my only point is a question: aren't soccer preseason games a little more indicative of what the real thing will be like? Simply because there are only so many players and they are all basically trying to accomplish the same task. Unlike basketball where the 1 doesn't post in the paint (except for Magic) and unlike football where the offensive guard doesn't work on his pass routes too much (except for Herb Scott).

Even with soccer, there are still things to work on in pre-season matches. They'll work in freshmen early, try different players at different positions, work on plays, etc. The Aggies will probably play different in two weeks.

However, when you play against at Top 25 team, you can also see how your talent stacks up, more or less. You figure the opponent is still tweaking and arranging, too.

Still, it's much nicer having a W in an exhibition than an L...
Way to go, Ags!

Exciting to see some freshmen make an impact too! Good news for the future!

91--you are right. It is more than just an exhibition - we didn't travel all that way to lose. Clemson is ranked high and you can bet they went all out to beat the #6 Ags!

Aggie Lawyer -- I know a lot of people don't understand the game of soccer the way that they do football, basketball, or baseball -- from not having played it and/or watched it as much. I also know that you didn't mean your post to be disrespectful so I hate to use the word ignorance -- it's more like uninformed. Although you may not understand the intricacies of the game enough to know it, your description of preseason football and basketball games is dead on for soccer as well. With that having been said, yes, I'm sure they were playing to win.

Awesome! I commend any team in any sport on beating Clemscum.

Mike Price... Larry Eustachy... Jim Harrick... I would like to take this opportunity to thank God for Mark Richt.
