Top end looks very nice, good to see what will hopefully be Grant Nel's replacement from a points perspective!

Does anyone have a list of these guys lets say, 3 best times?
Interested in seeing what the depth is here...

For those of us who are not familiar with the significance of the collegiate swimming times, could someone take the trouble predict what these recruits can do for our team?

Thanks in advance.

Comments are based on no real knowledge of these guys. Don't know if they have been improving steadily, how long they have been training seriously, etc.

quote:
Bonetti - 47.6/1:45.1 Back, 1:51.3 IM

Very good backstroke times (compare to the times of the buys below). Could win 5A state in Texas with that 100 time. Likely score points in the SEC.

quote:
Carazo - (LCM) 3:58 Free, 2:03.8/4:23 IM, 1:03.6 Breast

Solid mid-distance free, nice breaststroke time. Odd combination of events. Doubt he would swim these same events at A&M.

quote:
Castillo - (LCM) 1:03.3/2:19.6 Breast, 2:11.6 IM

Very nice breaststroke times. The 1:03.3 converts to a 54+ SCY. SEC point scorer.

quote:
Hendricks - 49.6/1:50 Fly, 1:49.4 Back

Solid fly/back guy. The 200 back time is particularly good. Could score at SECs.

quote:
Kerr - 50.5/1:48.7 Back, 1:55.6 IM

Similar to Hendricks - slower in the 100 back but faster in the 200.

quote:
McAnany - 50.3 Back, 21.6/47.8 Free

Middle of the pack times.

quote:
Morey - 20.5/44.8 Free, 50.7 Back

Very solid sprint freestyle times. Should score at SECs.

quote:
Mulleady - 21.0/45/9 Free, 1:50.8 Back

Nice 200 back and promising free sprinter. Gotta have a decent 100 back too?

quote:
Tybur - 56.2/2:00.8 Breast, 1:51.2 IM

Solid breaststroke and IMer. Could be an SEC scorer.

quote:
Whieldon - 45.8/1:38.4 Free, 51.1 Fly

Very solid freestyle times for a high school kid. That 200 time could get him on our A relay.

Big time breaststroke class - good job! Received 4 years worth of depth in 1 class.

That looks to be a really solid group. They've got big shoes to fill but I'd say that's one of the strongest classes the Aggie men have seen coming in.

Carazo should be darn near NCAA scoring times in the 400 IM assuming he can translate that 4:23 into yards. He was also 2:03 in the 200 IM as a 16-year old! I have to think he'll be at European Juniors in August so hopefully he gets even faster before arriving on campus.

Castillo is also an interesting one. I remembered his name from some of the old Mexican National meets I would follow with Rita and co. His best swim might actually be his 50 breast; he went 28.6 LCM last summer at World Juniors.

It makes no difference to me, but I know some people on here will be happy to see seven of the eleven coming from Texas. Great to see a lot of new freestylers and backstrokers for the new sprint coach to get his hands on. Tybur is the fastest incoming freshman 200 breaststroker they've had, for sure. Morey looks to be really good, too; he's got a 56+ butterfly time as well.

We've known about Bonetti for a while so I've checked up on him frequently. He is very consistently fast which will come in handy for our dual meets. He's usually out very fast, too, which can be incredibly valuable on a relay leadoff leg. He just tied for 2nd at the Irvine Grand Challenge this weekend in the 100 back at 57.7. This is another guy who is improving rapidly so hopefully he's :55+ at the end of the summer.

I went peeking around trying to find out about the Aussie diver. I'm no diving expert, but he's paired up with Olympic Champion Matthew Mitcham on the Platform event for the Commonwealth Games so it's safe to say he's an outstanding athlete. Add him to the mix with McLiney and Henschel and the guys should have nothing to worry about on the boards.

The coaches completely loaded up on breaststroke/IM and backstroke. They still need help in fly and desperate help in distance. One of the new backstrokers or current guys (Shaw, Turker) can step up for the butterfly for the relays, but the 1000/1650 will still be a weak point for duals and SECs.

I agree it is a nice class. It should address our breaststroke depth problem completely. Backstroke looks like a strength in this class, with some solid sprint to 200 free.

I wonder if the team is backing off trying to be stronger in distance free and going back to sprints? Omar has been our best distance guy in some time but he isn't improving anymore.

Sprint fly looks to be a weakness this fall with the loss of Lindau and Troskot.

Overall a nice job by the staff. Maybe we are beginning to see the difference of Mallam?
