I'm pretty new to the sport, but now that I'm finally starting to understand it, I'm hooked.

I became a Leafs fan when they blew that playoff game season before last. Being a former Houston Oilers fan, I could sympathize.

I want to follow an out of market hockey team. Which team would be a good choice? Chicago? Boston? Montreal?

Chicago has the largest percentage of bandwagon fans in the league. They basically didn't win a cup for about 40 years and then when everyone saw them celebrate in 2010 they thought "hey this looks cool lets root for them". So don't pick them. As for my opinion I have always liked Minnesota just because I'm a Stars fan and the teams are linked together with their pasts. Other than them I like Winnepeg because they were starving for a team and have been rabid fans ever since the Jets moved back up there. They aren't really good but if you start really following them there could be a huge sense of accomplishment when they finally put things together

The Blackhawks and Bruins are two of the best teams in the league and they both have long histories.

Look into the history of the Blackhawks before you label the entire fanbase. Specifically read about Dollar Bill Wirtz and you'll see why the Hawks didn't have many fans for a few decades. It's about a lot more than being bandwagon jumpers.

I understand there's an amazing history to the Hawks and I respect that. I just let my Stars emotions get the better of me when I see AAC painted red. I mean lets face it how many of those Blackhawk fans that show up in Dallas actually have ties to Chicago or the team? (and if they do then good on them and I wish them the best of luck)

As a Chicagoan living in DFW now I can tell you that there are tons of transplants like me. The same thing happened when the Bears played at Jerryworld and when the Cubs played at the Ballpark. I haven't been to a Mavs-Bulls game since the late 90's so I don't know if it's the case there too.

If that's the case then I guess I never realized it.....but either way the game last night was pretty intense and I'm looking forward to beating the hell outta y'all in the next 4 games!

I'm sure there are plenty of bandwagon jumpers like any championship team. But for a few decades Bill Wirtz made it virtually impossible for a kid like me to become a hockey fan. The home games were not televised because he thought it would affect ticket sales. Away games were on cable in a time where very few homes had cable. We did not. And the old Chicago Stadium was a rough place at times. My parents wouldn't let me go because there were always a lot of fights in the stands. That's the exact reason I stopped going to White Sox games even though I always got free tickets. I was a Cubs fan anyways but I didn't feel safe at Comiskey. The best thing to ever happen to the Blackhawks and their fans was Wirtz dying and his son Rocky taking over.

I actually became a hockey fan when the Stars moved to Dallas. While I did root for the Stars at the time, I always wore black & red when the Hawks came to town.

Junkhead, you have to admit the holding the stick call on Benn and then the non-call on Crawford were total BS...

Benn was holding the stick but Crow should have been called for delay of game.

Benn was holding Hossa's stick... as Hossa was holding Benn's. Should have both been called for a 4v4, not a Hawks PP.

Last game I went to at the AAC (Hawks won 8-2), I was quizzed by the Stars fans next to me who presumed I was bandwagoner. After I answered all their questions and threw in the fact that my grandfather played in the NHL (briefly), they begrudgingly admitted that I appeated to be a real fan. Nice guys though.

Interested in what you long-timers think about Mike Milbury's comments about fighting.

Fighting is a part of the game. Just like plunking batters in baseball. Players enforce themselves. Yes fighting has diminished, which is probably a good thing, but I don't this it should (or will/can) be removed entirely.

Bleeding heart libs want to change games in the name of safety. If you change them too much, the sports lose their essence (see the current war on football).

I kind of gather Milbury will be in the minority on this. The reasons for leaving it alone make sense to me, especially given the baseball analogy.
