Don't forget, the women play five games this weekend at Collins Park in Klein this weekend. Collins Park is located on Cypresswood Dr., just east of Steubner-Airline. There are three games on Saturday and two on Sunday, so be there...

The women's softball team finished 4-1 this weekend at the Ronald McDonald Classic in Klein, hosted by the SKGSL.

The team is now 6-1 during the fall season, as they prepare for a short two-day homestand this weekend at the Aggie Softball Complex.

Good stuff.

Do you happen to know who we beat and lost to? Any big name teams? Thanks.

I think this is what happened:

On Saturday, we beat Southern Mississippi, lost to ULL, then beat TAMU-Kingsville. On Sunday, we beat Nicholls St. and also beat UNT.

I was able to go Sunday, but not Saturday as I was at Kyle. On Sunday, Nicholls hung with us pitch for pitch through three innings, but then we blew them away scoring five runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. That game was called on a time basis. The UNT game (this is UNT's first softball team) was a little closer, but we eventually won 6-0. As I recall, we hit four HR's on Sunday, and played errorless ball. Pitching was good, SS play was good and we turned two DP's. As usual, there was a large contingent of Aggie suporters watching.

Between games, I had a chance to watch Baylor and ULL play, plus a little bit of Southern Mississippi. Baylor looked strong, with some good hitting. ULL looked very good. Baylor played ULL, but I don't know the final score. I watched Angelo St. play, and they looked pretty good too, but of course, they are Div. II.

Monarch - Do you care to venture any opinions as to how good we can be this year based on what you have seen? With Cat out this year at tu can we be up there with OU and Nebraska?

With two daughters in softball its hard for us to make many of the games.

Thanks

Wahoo 82-
Based on what I saw that weekend, we can be as good, or better, than last year. SS is in good shape, pitching is equal to last year if not better, OF is solid and the infield looks to be a little quicker and "athletic" than last year. We might have a drop off at catcher (how do you replace a Selena Collins?) but this will be a good team. This group will win some games. Of course, I haven't seen OU or Neb so don't know how we stack up, but we will be OK. Jo is doing a real good job.

(I relate to softball conflicts- my daughter plays too).

Sounds like the key will be hitting, much like last year. It was a shame last year to watch some good pitching performances result in losses because we could not score a few runs. A few more well timed runs in tight games could have had us in the top 10 and at the CWS.

Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the new season.

I meant to ask you what age level your daughter plays at. I have one at 12U (who is about to move up to 14U early) and one just moving into 10U. We play in the Austin area.

My daughter plays U14 at Spring Klein in Harris County. She has played select in the past, but is playing rec in this fall and probably in the spring too. She pitches and plays 2B & 3B. We have clocked her at 50-51 consistently (in games) and she is fairly accurate. Her hitting is above average, and she has some power and bat accuracy. On the other hand, I would like to see her play more 3B, since she is accurate getting the ball across the diamond and can actually throw darts from 3b to 1B.

As a side note, the fields the Aggie women played this tournament on are the same fields my daughter plays on. SKGSL/Collins Park is the best softball complex in Harris County.

Good luck with your two. What do they play position wise? Maybe we can hook up during the spring at a game...

Hey, why is Cat Osterman out for the year? I hadn't heard about this... Is she out for the Olympic Team stuff?

My older one plays 2nd, outfield, and pitcher. She is mid to upper 40s in speed (ok - not great) but has wicked control. She throws everything but a rise. She throws a curve that comes at a batter and breaks over the plate. It's cool to watch 'em bailing while the pitch breaks for a strike. She has also played some SS and I would like to see her redevelop that some. She is a slapper, bunter type with a good eye for strikes, so she walks a LOT!. High on base % - no homeruns. Fast on the bases.

My younger one is 2nd, outfield, and took up catcher this year (which she seems to have good instincts for). She has one of the purest swings I have ever seen and can rip the snot out of the ball, but needs to learn to be more selective. Too many SO swingings.

We don't make it to Houston often, but I will let you know if we head your way. Or maybe we will see you at a A&M game this year.

TA04 - Word is that Cat is supposed to be out from tu this year to tour with Olympic team or USA Softball (can't remember which). She should be back next year.

Cat is going out for the Olympic softball team. She will not be playing for Texas again until after the Olympics, if she makes the team. If she has dropped out of school, I don't know, but she will not be playing for the oprangebloods next summer...

Thanks for your response, and good luck with your girls. Sounds like they have some talent.

Lets stay intouch on this board- maybe we can hook up in the spring for a softball game in CS.
