Soccer Yells/Traditions?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have a couple of questions. I know very little about soccer. Like I said in previous posts that the first time I ever even thought about soccer was our first home game this year. Ever since then I have been hooked, even went to the game in Spring. Ok to my questions
1. I personally think yelling while we are on offense is better than on defense. I feel that we should be quiet while on defense b/c I feel that more comunication has to be done between KJ and the rest of the defense. What are the arguments for the opposite? Yelling while on defense.
2. Would it be better to try and make up songs/chants for soccer or borrow some from other soccer nations?
3. I enjoy standing. I stand at all games that I attend. My group and I get there really early and get the same spot every time, in the area that stands. Is this bad that we like to stand and show support?
These were some questions that I have been pondering, and I was just curious as to see what everyone else thought. Proud Member of ASH

I think it's great to try and have some real discussions about this.

1. I personally don't think there's going to be any significant difference w/ the yelling. Offense or defense, I don't think it's near loud enough to make an impact. The problem is that it's a completely open area and there aren't hundreds of people yelling.
2. Like I said in the other post, I'd like to see some new stuff. Somebody said in the other post that having the Yell Leaders only go to football shows less support for the other teams, but I disagree. The Yell Leaders don't go to baseball for example (as Yell Leaders) but there is just a multitude of support for that club. I think the coolest thing ever would be to start making some of our own chants and stuff. Example: There must be SOMETHING we can do against texas. We're what, 15-0 alltime against them. Surely we can think of some creative way to express that.
An RA friend of mine said she went to see a speech by the guy (I can't recall his name, sorry) who started most of the traditions at baseball and who is now an announcer for some of the Round Rock games. In his speech, he suggested that other sports start developing their own personalities, and I agree. Doing yells is fine, but change isn't bad either. One problem w/ yells is the timing... Soccer generally doesn't stop. We have time to maybe throw in a BTHO___ but not much more.
3. If we can arrange with Byrne to have some sort of student section, standing would be great. Like another poster said, it can pose a problem for families, especially at the first couple games of the season when it's little league night, etc. I'm afraid though, that until the day comes when we'll expand the bleachers and renovate some seating at the ASC, a "student section" won't be there. I think the best approach here is to possibly inform families and children that you'll be standing the whole game. As long as we're cordial and friendly about it, I'm sure that the families will understand, and could always relocate to a different area.

I went to the Web site of my favorite club, Chelsea, and grabbed some songs, etc. from there. Not that I think we should copy it, but to give you and idea of what some clubs sing or chant.

"This page has some of the favourite Chelsea ditties, and I'm not talking hymns here.

It curently includes listings of the lyrics, if you can call them that, of the songs and chants of the best supporters in the country. Corrections & Additions welcomed.

The Blue Flag

Forever and ever we'll follow our team,
( might be : Where ever they go we`ll follow our team)
For we are the Chelsea and we are supreme,
We'll never be mastered by no northern b*****ds,
And we'll keep the blue flag flying high,

Flying high, up in the sky,
We'll keep the blue flag flying high
From Stamford Bridge to Wemb(er)ley
We'll keep the blue flag flying high

Celery
Carefree, wherever we may be
We are the famous CFC
And we don't give a f***
Whoever you may be
'Cos we are the famous CFC

Over Land and Sea
We will follow the Chelsea
Over land and sea - And Leicester!
We will follow the Chelsea
onnnntooo vi-ic-toreee
(altogether now)
We will follow the Chelsea
Over land and sea - And Leicester!
We will follow the Chelsea
onnnntooo vi-ic-toreee

Blue is the Colour
Chorus
Blue is the colour, football is the game
We're all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
'cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name

Verse 1
Here at the Bridge whether rain or fine
We can shine all the time
Home or away, come and see us play
You're welcome any day

Chorus
Blue is the colour, football is the game
We're all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
'cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name

Verse 2
Come to the Shed and we'll welcome you
Wear your blue and see us through
Sing loud and clear until the game is done
Sing Chelsea everyone.

Classic One-offs

2-0, We always win 2-0, we always win 2-0!!!

To Middlesbrough fans 26/09/98 after winning the league game 2-0 (following two, 2-0 Cup final wins)

"You came all this way and lost."
To Man Utd fans AT Old Trafford

Lets all do the Seaman, Lets all do the Seaman!!!
To David Seaman complete with flapping hand gestures in the first match after the infamous Nayim from the half way line goal

What's it like to be outclassed
Can we play you every week
To Middlesboro while being thumped 5 - 0 (1996)"

Anyway, there's little bit (of the stuff I can post on Texags, anyway). The point is you can sing or chant about a bunch of stuff, you just need to find the right material. I don't necessarily want to rip off another club or whatever, but it would be cool to build soccer traditions.

Another thought, I wish we'd sing "Spirit of Aggieland" at various points during the match. It's a good, slow song that everyone knows and could sound really awesome coming from the stands.
