Remember talked about when joined SEC, but are there any plans to start a Gymnastics scholarship program?

Just thought about it seeing it on SEC channel now and know we have the club status teams for long time.

I haven't heard any real push to add any sports lately .

I think the big question right now is what is going to happen to equestrian. As an emerging sport, those 15 scholarships currently count towards our title ix. There was a recommendation to remove the sport's NCAA status because not enough schools are adopting it, but they basically tabled the question for later and left its emerging status for now.

Who knows what will end up happening to it. It does have support of some large schools (A&M, Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina, Baylor, TCU) and conferences (XII & SEC) that it might have enough power to keep it around even if they can't get more schools involved. It also has more teams competing in that than in Men's Gymnastics and they have kept that as a sport.

As long as equestrian still counts, I doubt we add any more sports. If at some point those no longer count, I am guessing we would need to replace them. Not sure women's gymnastics would beat the top of the list as I have heard it is one of the more expensive women's sports, but it does offer a comparable number of scholarships, 12.

No way we can afford gymnastics. Electric bills run high what with an arcade and heated gold toilet seats in the football locker room.

No disrespect but we dont need to spend money on gymnastics. Focus on more real sports.

Gymnastics appears to be a "real" sport in the SEC. Make equestrian a club
sport and use the scholarships for gymnastics. Equestrian does not seem to be catching on at other universities. Not that many have a program now! And it has little to no tv value, unlike gymnastics which gets plenty of airtime on the SEC channel.

Equestrian will be interesting. They need to get to 40, but only 18 schools still have teams (UT-M is shutting it down). 4 in the SEC (A&M, USCe, Auburn & Georgia) and 4 in the BXII (Baylor, K-State, TCU & Okie State). 3 from the IVY (Brown, Cornell & Dartmouth).

Seems like a pretty expensive sport to add which would rely on mostly sponsorship and BMDs. Most ADs are struggling financially, outside the SEC and maybe the B1G.

Would it surprise you to know the BigXII has only 3 Men's Swimming & Diving (Sips, TCU & WV) and only 5 Womens (Iowa State, Kansas, Sips, TCU & WV)?!

There are some DII schools - UMinn - Crookston, Seton Hill, Stonehill & West Texas A&M and 13 DIII schools.

I could see Tarleton adding Equestrian.

By comparison, there are 61 Women's Gymnastics teams. 8 SEC and 3 BigXII, 10 B1G.

I think if A&M added Gymnastics, we could be a top team within just a few years.

I haven't seen any actual budgets between different sports, but I am pretty sure I remember Equestrian being advertised as basically a cheap way to add women scholarships and help get universities into title ix compliance. They were strongly implying that equestrians was a lot cheaper to run than other women's sports.

I do agree with you that equestrian does seem to have stalled out and is even moving slightly in the other direction. I think K-State is shutting it down too after this year unless something has changed. I'm not sure how they can get more schools to sponsor the sport at this point.

I haven't done much research, but looking at this... there are many club teams that I guess could become scholarship for Title IX.

NCAA women's gymnastic championship is in Texas, best gymnast in the world is from Texas, former Olympian medalists live in Texas. But texas doesn't have a D1 women's gymnastics program?? Not to mention SEC teams with programs.
Texas A&M=D1=SEC= needs women's gymnastic program.

Went to the NCAA Champion last night. It was a lot of excitement and came down to OU and LSU. I just can't see why they don't add the sport. I ton of beautiful athletic women. These women work harder than most football players.
