Great comeback win by Wooten. It's great for our guys to finally pull one of these close ones out against a top team.
Interesting to note that many of the Rice players and fans were upset that Ante and Lester did not play #1 doubles together. I overheard one of the Barker twins, as he walked off the court, say something along the lines of...those pansies didn't want to play their top team against us.
It's interesting to read what Cass had to say about it afterwards:
“I had wanted to change the doubles for two weeks, but I didn’t have the guts to do it,” Cass said. “Seems like an awkward time because they have a top doubles and we do, but my goal is to win the doubles point. The rule says to win the doubles point I have to put them in order of strength and I’ll abide by that rule. If I have to split Ante and Lester to do it, then I will.”
There appeared to be a somewhat heated exchange between Cass and Rice's head coach after Wooten clinched the match. I wish I knew the details of that conversation. I wonder if it had anything to do with the doubles shuffling or the huge on-court celebration following Wooten's win.
