"H likes to win ... but he does it fairly and NOT at any cost."
Would that be the same coach that purposely had his top athletes "false start" two years in a row at the outdoor regionals to rest and advance? Year 1 didn't raise that many eyebows....year 2 DID.
The new-fangled Regionals are a horrible and unfair to the top teams, and I don't blame Henry for taking that route *considering*, but McDonnell didn't do it. He even said so much at the press conference, calling out the NCAA. He forego 20 points at the outdoors on principle (yet his team still won it).
"...both have excellent records..."
Indeed they do -- Henry has won 27 NCs coaching both the mens and womens teams ( 22 from the women, only 5 from the men). McDonnell has won 39 NC's coaching just the men -- he has more NCs than any coach in NCAA history.
I have no qualms in proclaiming Henry the best coach in women's NCAA track history, but McDonnell is without question the best coach in NCAA TRACK HISTORY. The record speaks for itself.
McDonnell is also just an all-around nicer guy. Anyone in the track world will tell you that.
