while i'm not a huge fan of the MLS, i'm glad it's growing and improving. Salt Lake City has been announced as the location of the new expansion team for 2005...but doesn't have a name. what do you think it should be?

the Burn will most likely be called FC Dallas starting next year and will have a new color scheme.

I like FC Dallas more than Dallas Burn, but I maintain the opinion that the pre- and post-fixes "FC" and "United" are the most overused words in sports.

well since that's the way teams were known back in the 1800's/early 1900's...i think they have an excuse. they didn't care if it sounded cool.

Since I'm apparantly the only one out of the know here, what does FC stand for?

Burn is ridiculous. They need to hire NHL naming and logo consultants. The NHL has the best logos (by far) and some of the better names (Avalanche -- though I hate Colorado) in all of sports. I love the Sharks and Mighty Ducks logos.

football club

There used to be a youth club called FC Dallas. I think it is a good name for the Burn to switch to. Their base of fans can relate with Football Club Dallas (even if FC Dallas will play in Frisco).

back to my original post, it looks like they're leaning more and more toward Salt Lake City FC. i wouldn't mind that...i'll probably refer to them as "City" kinda like how Manchester City is known as.

Apparently, they are down to 4 choices. They don't mention Salt Lake City FC so its probably the one they left out. The others are:

Alliance
Glory
Real Salt Lake City

I like the idea of a more "traditional" name as the writer suggests but lets please keep it to English.

Alliance isn't as bad...but i still don't like it. I was hoping they'd just do FC and get it over with.

Could someone please explain how SLC is 'royal'? That is what 'Real' means when refering to Madrid's team isn't it?
