I hate to see people end their careers with health issues....even if they play for the other side....

from lonestarvolleyball.com :

Kathy Hahn, the former Leander and All-Big 12 player at the University of Texas, has retired from the sport prior to the start of her senior season due to an incurable pain in her left knee. According to Mark Davis of the Austin American-Statesman, Kathy tried orthopedic specialists, chiropractors, physical therapists, acupuncturists and even mental healers.

"Pretty much, it was volleyball, school and doctors," she told Davis. She had arthroscopic surgery the past two seasons, but the cartilage in her knee continued to waste away. Kathy told of one match where she jumped but never left the court because her left knee would not cooperate.

Kathy's younger sister, Christi, is a sophomore at Texas A&M. According to Davis, Kathy now lives in South Austin with two other Texas athletes and spends her days lifeguarding at a neighborhood pool, and weekends hanging out with friends on Lake Travis and Lake Austin.

Kathy told Davis that she has no regrets: "I got to live my dreams. Not many people get to do that."

I had heard that she might do that. It's cool that she was able to play against her sister at A&M before she had to retire. I don't know if they were ever on the court at the same time, but they were in the same matches.

That's a shame. Good luck to her.
