Meet Preview
We got a taste, a small sample of track in December. But ladies and gentlemen, buckle up because TRACK AND FIELD SEASON IS HERE. The time for your Texas A&M Track and Field, ahem, YOUR REIGNING NATIONAL CHAMPION FIGHTIN TEXAS A&M TRACK AND FIELD TEAM is back in action this weekend in that dusty old town of Lubbock.
Outside may be freezing cold, but our Aggies will be burning up the track in the first meet of 2026. It will be a solid competitive opener in Lubbock with schools like: Texas Tech, tu, Arizona State, Arizona, Baylor, and others. The Arizona schools are great at field events and always have strong 400 runners. Tech will be a competitor for national championships indoors. They brought in some huge transfers and international competitors. TCU is strong on the women's side and it'll be interesting to see the individual talent tu brought in through the portal after a lot of their team left.
Most of our roster should be competing, after we got a small preview of the team in early December. Athletes like Sofia Yakushina, Auhmad Robinson, Ja'Qualon Scott, Kimar Farquharson, Jaiya Covington, Camryn Dickson, Micah Larry, Taylor Nunez, and many more will be competing. We are going to have a strong presence in the women's 60 with Dickson, Nunez, transfers: Aysha Shaheed, Anya Jackson, and Machaeda Linton. In the men's 400 we'll have Auhmad Robinson, Kimar Farquharson, Lawson Jacobs, Eric Hemphill, Demarco Escobar, and Jakup Szarapo. The 1000 will see some solid Aggies competing and the debut for Reece Sharman-Newell. I'm excited to see Sophia Bendet and Elise Smoot run this distance. The 4x400 will be an excellent race Saturday. We have listed on the men's side: Kimar Farquharson, Antonie Nortje, Auhmad Robinson, and JaQualon Scott. Wow. Even our B and C relays will be loaded. I'm excited to see how our women relay run as well with many newcomers.
We'll also be well represented in the field events. Henry Zimmerman will make his Aggie debut in the weight throw and he has scored at national before in this event. Georgia transfer Micah Larry and UTRGC transfer Jedidiah Udunna will be contesting the long jump while Yakushina and Morgan Davis will be on the women's side. We won't see Solovev in the pole vault.
We have a very loaded men's squad indoors. To qualify for indoors nationally is a bit different than outdoors. Here, the top 16 in each event are allowed to compete at nationals. So what's most important about indoors is getting huge marks or fast times. Although it's still very early in the season, we have guys capable of getting some big time results that can influence this result.
So although it's only meet 1 of 2026 and it's primarily used to see where we stand, it's still important we track big time performances. Our strength indoors will be the 400 and 800 (what's new). We'll also have Aleksandr Solovev and a strong vaulting crew and a great group of jumpers. Our mile group will be the best we've ever had and we should be able to have a strong DMR as well. On the women's side our strength will be our 60 and 200 sprinters. We'll also have Sofia Yakushina, the NCAA's best multi athlete, Winny Bii and some great jumpers as well.
This is going to be a great year for Aggie Track and Field. Follow along and come witness history yet again! Tech puts on a solid meet and it'll be great to see how we look early on. Let's hope for some big performances! Gig'em and welcome back my Aggie Track Friends
