Meet Preview
Back home and it's February. It's time to get this season rolling. Hit some PR's, establish some big marks, and narrow our goals. Indoor season comes at you extremely fast. As of now there are only two more regular season meets before conference and nationals. It's time to compete!
We have a great home meet in store this weekend. It's a two day meet that also includes the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon. The multi events are shortened indoors. We'll have Blake Harris competing in the Heptathlon, as well as Adam Averett competing unattached. On the women's side we'll have Sofia Yakushina the reigning NCAA runner up competing in the pentathlon, as well as Mercy Freeman, Rylee Lydon, Bradie Mennegati, as well as Aggie Alum and NCAA Champion Timara Chapman. The heptathlon is split into two days while the pentathlon is one, both will begin on Friday. A few other pros will be competing on both sides.
The first field event on Friday (after the weight throw) will be worth the price of admission. The men's pole vault will feature NCAA Champion Aleksandr Solovev. He hasn't competed yet in 2026 so I'm excited to see how he does. As well as transfer Oleg Ananev along with Aggie Olympian Jacob Wooten.
The meet being split up into two days provides two shortened action packed days. Friday we'll only have the 200, 5000, and 400 along with a few field events and the multis. Saturday will have the 60, 60 hurdles, mile, 800, 3000, and 4x400.
On Friday, the first race will be a loaded women's 200. It'll feature two of our unattached athletes who only have outdoor eligibility Jasmine Montgomery and Adrianna Tatum, along with Aggies Camryn Dickson, Aysha Shaheed, Anya Jackson, and Leah Burr. An important race will be the men's 400, after having off last weekend, we got to run some fast times to reclaim our spots on the rankings. We'll have Auhmad Robinson, Erick Hemphill III, Kimar Farquharson, Demarco Escobar, Musa Isah, Iliya Dryaba, and Jakup Szarapo. I'm also excited to see how the men's long unfolds Friday with Micah Larry, Khybah Dawson, and Jedidiah Udunna.
On Saturday I'm excited for our 800 and mile runs. Sophia Bendet and Elise Smoot will run the 800 along with Tharushi Karunarathna. The men's side will have Peter Narumbe along with Reece Sharman-Newell, Stefan Dodoo, and Grant Ashby. The mile should be fun too, we'll see long distance stars Joyce Kemboi and Megan Roberts drop down to run the mile. Youssef Asslouj will run it on the men's side along with Michael Moiben who ran a 13:50 5000, as well as Carter Gordy and Diego Heredia. We'll also see 5 Aggie women in the 60 along with Micah Larry!
It should be a great weekend of track! An important weekend for our Aggies to show out in front of the 12th Man! I'd recommend everyone heading over to Fasken to see some elite completion. I love spring sports because you can walk back and forth from Fasken to the softball complex for the Aggies Classic and on Saturday you can watch Aggie basketball right after the track meet ends! I'll be here all weekend with updates so tune in, join in on the fun, and if you're out there cheer hard for the Aggies and enjoy yourself! Gig'em!
