One of the great things about Texas A&M is the vast number of sporting opportunities, even those not in the NCAA. Just a few examples would be the men's club soccer team, men and women's rugby teams, and the Texas A&M Paintball Team, which was formed last year, and this is what I am going to speak of for a little bit here. Finally, after years of ideas, as President of the Texas A&M Paintball Club last year, I met with several members interested in competing in paintball tournaments on the intercollegiate circuit. In a matter of weeks, the team was practicing, and within a month, travelled to the National Collegeiate Paintball Association South Central Collegiate Conference Championships in New Orleans to take 1st. They took 6th at a similar tournament in the Spring, but also sent a team to Orlando for the National Championships, taking 8th place, out of 48 teams. The only losses recorded were delivered by teams that took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. It's unfortunately an expensive sport to play, and the team is always looking for ways to offset the cost through sponsorships and fund-raising. This fine group of individuals is examplary of the competitive spirit that Texas A&M exudes, and I can't wait to see what they do in the coming years.
