Celtic versus Rangers. I know the SPL is not very competitive and not many people follow it but this really is one of the most heated rivalries in all of sports. Rangers won 2-0...I still think Celtic wins the SPL however.

I hate it when american soccer fans use english terms when talking about soccer. In the US we have games not derbies or matches.

A derby is a term used when city rivals square off. Derbies such as:

Manchester United vs. Manchester City
Liverpool vs. Everton
Arsenal vs. Tottenham

I prefer the term rivalry game. I even live accross the pond, but I won't ever use their soccer jargon. I'm American dammit!

Touchy, touchy. If you're that worked up about being an American, you probably don't play football, uh, I mean soccer, anyway.

Personally, I prefer match to game, pitch to field and other stuff like that, but I don't go out of my way to use it.

dubag, you can call it whatever you want. we don't care.

my sister used to live near Munich so she saw how crazy it got there when Bayern Munich was playing Munich 1860. i've always wanted to be in a place like that to see how passionate those fans can get for a big match like that.

Dubag...when in Rome son...when in Rome!

You should be calling it football cos it's a ball that you kick with yer foot.

Have to admit...even though I live in the USA, I can't call this game 'soccer'. As far as I am concerned it's football & the game played in the US is American Football.

Celtic Rangers...hmmm...rivalry alright, but the SPL is ****e, which is why those two teams have been pleading to join the EPL. NOt gonna happen thank god!

I think the EPL should let them join. What the hell would it hurt? It would increase revenues for the television contract and would help Celtic and Rangers become competitive on the European stage.

Cos the Scots are always *****ing about the English. It's a bit like as you guys would say...being an aggie.
I have no desire or care to see Rangers or Celtic play in the Premiership, & also Newcastle is about as far north as Most people in the south of England would wish to visit (bit backward up there so heading further north for a football game ain't on.

They only want to join for the $$$, that's all.

I've played for 18 years now from recreational to the best youth leagues and players US and some other countries have to offer. London, you should heed your own advice "when in rome", you're in america people should act like it not some european soccer snobs.

dubag:

Calm down friend. What difference does it make what we call it? I know that I am still an American in Houston, Texas. If I call something a derby then let it be.

Of course if you live in England I can see why you are pissed about it. When I was over there they were complete turds about language.

Just when you thought this had died and gone away, here I come to bring it back.

I, as an American, tend to interchange English/American words because let's face it. 90% of the soccer/football coverage I get comes from FSW which comes from Sky Sports and guess what...they're British. If I hear someone calling the patch of grass they play on a pitch over and over again, eventually, I'm going to start calling it a pitch. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter. No matter what word I use, if you have half a brain and a sliver of soccer knowledge, I've conveyed my thought which is the ultimate goal of speech.

That's all have to stay about that [/forrest gump] Whatever happened to the legitimate soccer talk? Are we left arguing over whether its called football or soccer? Getting back to the original topic of the thread, a show that I try to watch on FSW (Fox Football Friday) had a piece a few weeks back where callers put forth their opinion as to what was the most heated rivalry. Some that I think are worth mentioning are River Plate and Boca, Inter and Milan, and Real and Barcelona. Personally, if I could pick one to go to this year it would be Real and Barcelona since they are 1-2 in La Liga.

Real versus Barcelona is a great match-up. Bercelona has really improved their stock bringing in that sorry Brazilian mother ****er that dissed my beloved ManU.
