Apparently there was talk on the Friday night soccer show on Fox Sports World that Chelsea might buy the San Jose MLS franchise. Since I don't have a MLS that I normally follow, maybe I would actually follow San Jose if they have a link to Chelsea. Any thoughts?

I think this could be really good, but not really for American soccer in the league sense. All of the English clubs have a far longer history and better system in place to develop talent. I assume that the San Jose and California area in general will see some elevated play and committment to building quality facilities and acadamies. But I think Chelsea is using this as another worldwide academy so they can raid the American talent at an early age. Should help the national team with players developing in the stronger European acadamies and leagues but still leave the MLS a little left out.

I think you suck for being a Chelsea fan. I would find you more palatable if you were a Newcastle fan.

What if I was an Everton fan? Don't worry, fourth place isn't too bad. And I'll feel even better after adding three points to the lead over Arsenal today.

Everton is the best story this year IMO. With the hiring of that maniac coach Chelsea was supposed to succeed. But who in the hell saw Everton doing what they are doing?

I don't ever see this Chelsea move materializing.

ce, I agree. I love that Everton is doing well. I think it's pretty cool.

As for Chelsea buying SJ, I don't think it will happen, but you never know. I don't know what, exactly, they would do with the club.

I missed last Friday's show so this is the first I've heard of it. Personally, I think this would be great if it happens but I doubt it will. MLS is in desperate need of good, new owners. That's one reason while I am still waiting to see what happens in LA with Chivas USA, I thought it was a move that should be made even though it could bring potential problems (i.e. simply a Mexican farm team for Chivas). Chelsea would definitely be a good owner and even if they use it simply to develop American talent and bring them overseas, a team being owned by the likes of Chelsea could only help player development and overall play in general.

If this were to happen, I sincerely doubt that San Jose would be able to keep the team unless Chelsea wanted to keep the team there for some reason and/or they were willing to foot a large portion of the bill for a new stadium in the area. San Jose had its chance for local ownership and to build a new stadium and it doesn't look like its going to pan out. I don't see why Chelsea would want to commit to that area.
