It has been so long since they played a meaningful game, that I almost forgot how much I don't like them, but this reminded me a bit...

I still think that the US will be fortunate to take away any points from the match but if they do, I'd love to see Mr. Borgetti eat crow. And as for you Mr. Marquez, if I remember correctly, you did a pretty good job of taking out you anger with a straight red in the waning moments in Korea.

Lets hope for a good performance from the US that gets some points. Regardless, this rivalry keeps getting more and more intense which no matter the outcome, is good for soccer.

It hasn't been that long, remember they ousted us out of the olympics about a year ago by drubbing us 4-0 in Azteca.

I think we stand a chance at this game though. We have been playing well and more importantly, our European guys have been playing especially well against high level competition.

I know Azteca is an intimidating stadium but I would imagine that the Champions League away games will help Donovan and Beasly immensly.

Speaking of Donovan, did you see this on that same website?

I hope its only temporary because he doesn't need to be playing here. I can understand leaving Leverkusen because that outfit hasn't been fair to him at all, but he should try to make his way to England or somewhere else at least.

Do you think it could help him again by playing against slightly easier competition and rasing his confidence level?

That wasn't the full men's squad.

This is the most important game the Mexicans have played since we eliminated them from the WC. This is the most important game the Americans have played since the quarterfinal loss to Germany (which was the game after we kicked Mexico's ass in Korea).

This is huge. The Mexican coach will probably get fired if he loses to the U.S. AGAIN. Not necessarily immediately, but before next year.

My plans to be in Mexico city for the match didn't work out, but I've been looking forward to this one for a while.

I'd love to see a U.S. win, but I actually think a draw might be the best scenario for everyone. The Mexican team probably has the worst sportsmanship in all of sports, especially if they are down early. I can't imagine how stupid they might act with their fans on them at home and losing to their biggest rivals.

It's clear that Donovan absolutely hates playing in Germany. Sure, he is good enough to play in a better league than MLS, but maybe he just wants to stay at home. It's not like he's hurting financially. He makes plenty of dough, even if it's not nearly as much as he could make in Europe. If he wants to stay in North America, the MLS is happy to have him.

I would love it if we can win in Mexico City. I'm in London right now, watched England trash Northern Ireland 4-0 earlier today, and been talking up the US since. Let's pull through. Let's take that in Estadio Estaca tonight.

the US/Mexico matches always remind me of when i played soccer at Bryan High. Our Hispanic teammates were always rooting for Mexico and we were rooting for the US, of course. always a fun little rivalry between us...but it could never compare to the real rivalry. this match will be huge.

USA!!!

That report is bs, btw... I get pretty much all of the euro league games on tv. If landon leaves for any reason, its because leverkusen lied to hiim about playing time. He hardly ever plays, and a star of his caliber should be starting or getting the majority of playing time at his position. If he leaves germany, he should go to an england club or italian maybe.

Azteca is one of the most intimidating venues anywhere. It is a great stadium.

I recall in the 1997 World Cup qualifier there, we tied 0-0. The fans were so incensed that they were throwing all kinds of stuff on the field while chanting "Fuera Bora" meaning Fire Bora (Miluntovic)-their coach.

I'd love to see us win there. That would really cause a psychological meltdown there.

Mexico wins 2-1. The US didn't play bad, but Mexico's 2nd goal was a result of a lapse of concentration.

Oh well, Guatemala on Wednesday.

The most valuable player for the USA is Keller, hands down. He has got to be one of the top goalies in the world and by far the most important goaly for their team.

If USA had a different goalie, I am not sure that the USA would have the number of victories that the team has.

Not to take anything away from Keller, but he's not even the best goalie in the Bundesliga, much less the world. He may not even be the best goalie on the men's national team.

Friedel is clearly a better keeper than Keller, but he retired from international play. In my opinion, Howard is also better at this point, but most would disagree with me. And as long as Howard isn't playing regularly, it's probably a good idea not to start him on the national team, either.

Keller had a good game today, but he could have done a lot better on the play that led to the first goal.

He didn't hesitate to come off his line today as much as he usually does, so that was good. Awesome save on that late direct kick.

Howard's just another victim of Post-Schmeichel Goalkeeping Syndrome at Man U.

Sorry, but I disagree with you folks. Without Keller this team is average.

You'll have to wait four year to try again. Mexico is still undefeated in Mexico City. Better bring your game in Columbus...

Wow, that wasn't what I wanted.

Let's face it. The US had two good chances to score and two half chances. The ended up scoring one. Mexico on the other hand had at least a half dozen good to great chances to score and if not for several amazing saves by Keller in the second half, the scoreline would have been even worse. Very few US players had a good game (Keller and to a lesser degree Johnson come to mind despite the fact he had no service). The backline was abysmal and the Reyna disappeared (I'm sure the altitude and smog hindered his already shaky fitness).

The positives: We scored for the first time in Mexico since 1984 and at least were theoretically in the game at the end despite the fact that the last 10 minutes of the game looked like Mexico was looking for another goal rather than the US. Let's hope we can bounce back and get three points against Guatemala. I predict Lewis taking Beasely's spot on the left with the standard 4-4-2 set up instead of the lone striker crap. Tune in Wednesday to find out...

There is no doubt that Keller was the best American on the field yesterday, but that doesn't necessarily make him the best American keeper.

Did you even watch the team with Friedel in goal in 2001 and 2002? Keller was on the bench then for a reason--not because he's not a world-class keeper, but because Friedel is just better.

That quote is absoluteley bull****!!

I read what he said in spanish and he said basically that a win would not only make the people in Mexico happy or proud, but also would give those abroad (here in the USA) something to celebrate about.

Another thing, what is it with all the anger towards Mexico and mexicans?? I mean like it or not, there are actualy Mexicans like myself that go to this university.
Yes it is your country, but maybe you should tone it down a bit...............just a suggestion.

I didn't see any of that on this thread. Could you point it out?

The only negative comment I see on this entire thread is mine--that the Mexican players are ridiculously poor sports when they don't get their way, especially against the U.S. I think that is well documented.

Nobody said anything bad about Mexico or Mexicans in general.

I can't speak for everyone, but personally, I have absolutely no problem with Mexico or anyone from Mexico, but that doesn't mean that I can't dislike the national team or the very small portion of Mexicans who chanted "Osama" at the match. It's a rivalry man. Just like I want to beat the crap out of t.u. in football every year and I severely dislike their sports teams, but I have nothing against people who go to UT and have many friends who do. I imagine that's how most view it...
houstontexan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
andyv, i think the usama chant you guys pulled a couple years ago would probably explain the anger towards mexico. that and the fact we have to pay to take care of these people, which no other nation would do, and then hear about how "mean" we are.

i'm a democrat and its starting to get on my nerves.
