So I know the baseball team won their first Big XII series this weekend, and there was also an Archery tournament...but how come there was nary a mention of the Softball Team continuing their amazing start by sweeping Kansas in Kansas?

The Batt sucks and they only have a notebook size sheet of paper for a sports section.

I think they actually do a pretty good job of balancing out their coverage among all of A&M's sports from football all the way to archery...softball will definitely get what's due them and more I'm sure...I don't think they intentionally slighted them...

nope, it's agreed. The Batt sucks. All they do is push all their liberal crap on us and report about only a few sports. I wish they would just get rid of their opinion columns and write only about sports. That would be awesome

I wish the Batt would report on BIG club news...mebbe not normal stuff, but if a club takes the national title or something, that's worthy.

Actually the batt doesn't seem to care about clubs. I e-mailed them a week before we hosted our volleyball conference telling them that we were picked to win it and i thought they would like some new interesting sports news. They never showed up and no one e-mailed me back saying they were coming or why they didn;t show.


By the way we won our conference by beating texas state 25-20, 25-15!

I approached the Sports Editor Dallas Shipp last year after the paintball team took the conference championship and then 8th at nationals, and he said the Batt didn't publish club events.

I agree that it would be nice to get some club sports news in there. But I don't know about them "push(ing) their liberal crap" on us. Sure they have some shock value opinions in there, but A&M is so rediculously conservative most of the time that it's nice to hear the other side. There are quite a few of us Ags that could open our minds a little more and think for ourselves instead of automatically accepting every right wing opinion as the truth.

For what it's worth, I worked for Batt Sports for a couple years, through December '03, and floated the idea of writing club sports articles. While I was there the official policy was, "If we cover one, we're going to have to cover them all." Plus every "minor" sport has an SID behind them asking us when we were going to cover them. With limited space and all it was difficult to justify running a non-varsity sport when we hadn't run an archery, equestrian style story for a couple weeks.
Since we had to come up with feature article ideas I usually would go with a "club sports spotlight" type deal, it wasn't completely rejected, but I ended up moving up to Football and Volleyball so I sort of lost interest. (At the time I was covering archery, equestrian and swimming...not that there was anything wrong with it, but it was sometimes hard to come up with equestrian articles when I had no idea what was going on). Anyway, maybe if y'all suggest something like the weekly spotlight the clubs can get some coverage, plus it's not that bad of a deal to write for the paper, $25 a story, so you may could even get hired and write it yourself.
