Did anyone see that disturbing piece on Bobby Fischer tonight on Sportcenter? Wow! I was unaware that he was certifiably insane and not to mention as hateful, malicious, and vengeful as a human could be. He called into this radio station in Manilla after 9/11 and was rejoicing in the fact that American got what was coming to them. I guess he walked that fine line between genius and insane and fell on the wrong side. He claims that America doesn't have the right to exist and continually blames the Jews for all sorts of problems despite the fact that he is part Jewish. The story was honestly sad because his mind is corrupt with utter madness. Jeremy Schaap did the story because of his long interest in Fischer because his dad was a sort of "father figure" to Fischer when he was young. Schaap confronted him in Iceland the other day and he went on this diatribe about Jews for some time. Please pray for that man, he really needs help.

Yeah, that was a shocking story...I felt sorry for Jeremy Schapp. Fischer's a nutjob.

I saw it. Schapp told him what was up when he said "you haven't done anything here to disprove anything my father said"

Though I really like Dick Schaap, I've never cared much for Jeremy Schapp. But I thought his coolness when dealing with Fisher was very well handled.

As to a poster above, Fisher now lives in Iceland.

As someone who use to play amateur tournament chess, I admire Fischer's chess play more than any other chess player even if I abhor almost everything that comes out of his mouth. Unfortunately, his overdeveloped chess mind seems almost to have come at the cost of underdevelopment of other areas of his mind. I've always thought of Fischer and Michael Jackson similarly since Jacko began doing nothing but entertaining from the age of very early childhood. Both are warped human beings with amazing special talents.

that line said it all. Fischer is a loon.

I thought it was a very well done story. I had no idea he had descended into his own personal hell. Very sad, because as others have said, he was/is absolutely brilliant in other areas.

Very sad indeed. It is such a tragedy that a guy with such intelligence has gone so mad. They were saying that Fischer had an IQ of 180 (same as Einstein)!

They showed the press conference part right after it happened a few weeks ago. It was nice to see the whole story.

I started the post on the baseball section that is how I know, lay off of everyone with the criticism.
