Not football related, but Lance Armstrong just announced that he's retiring immediately after this year's Tour de France. I'm sad that he's leaving, but it would be amazing to see him go out with a 7th consecutive win, hopefully over a French dude.

I personally think Lance Armstrong is an *******. Most people who have worked with him will agree. Sure, its great that he overcame cancer and is such a great cyclist, but that doesn't make you a good person by any means.

I'm no Lance fan, but it was his wife who cheated on him. If I remember correctly, it was his mom, not his wife, who was with him during the cancer. She wasn't in the picture.

The things that make Lance dominant on the bike is probably what makes him tough to deal with in day to day life. He has to be so self focused and "me" centered to be as great as he is on the bike. I think we all know people who are like that in business. It is fine to admire him as an athlete and to not think much of him as a person. I find his accomplishments to be incredible. I am sure Jordan, Gretsky, etc...are very similar in dealing with people. Why....because most people they see want something from them, if only a chance to speak to them or an autograph. I think Lance's 6 tours maybe 7 will go down as one of the greatest sports accomplishments of my lifetime. In 5 years, he will be seen as a kinder softer personality and get the warm fuzzy feeling everyone requires from their heros, but for now he will be seen as a self centered athlete.

Jordan, yes. All the stuff that has come out about him in recent years makes you wonder if all those early news stories on him were made up.

Remember Charly Gaul went into self-imposed exile after his cycling career. Big L will most likely do exactly what you point out: Mellow. What will hinder him will be his celeb status. He will not be able to go anywhere in the world without being recognized. Maybe he and Eddy will do another "Tour de Gruene" together?

His wife was f'in his financial manager (or someone in a similar position) while he was away training...

That was an awesome day. I got photos with both of them and I beat them in the timetrial. Not too many people can say they've beaten two 5-time TdF winners.

I recently read a book on cyclings greatest climbers by Owen Muholland(sp). You might enjoy it.

That is framed. I also have a framed photo of Lance and I that I had him sign a few months later at the Race for the Roses.

Like I said, it was Christmas that day.

I'll have to look into that book.
