I just called and talked to Todd Taylor, the pro at pebble creek. There is a doubles league starting NEXT wednesday, June 15th. The cost for non-members is $40. They are looking for players of all levels.
The USTA has a ranking system that people rate their tennis abilities at. A 2.0 is a beginner, and a 7.0 is a professional.
I believe that the USTA defines a 4.0 as: "You have dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate-paced shots. You can use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success and occasionally force errors when serving. Rallies may be lost due to impatience. Teamwork in doubles is evident."
4.5: "You have developed your use of power and spin and can handle pace. You have sound footwork, can control depth of shots, and attempt to vary game plan according to your opponents. You can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve. You tend to overhit on difficult shots. Aggressive net play is common in doubles."
IL-AG if you were All-Conference in college, then you are like a 5.0-higher. If high school, then probably 4.5. Regardless, its a lot of fun to get out and play.
If anyone is interested in doing to Pebble Creek thing, call Todd at 690-0994, and tell them Geoff Folkers told you about it. I really have no clue as to how many guys are allowed to play, but the more the merrier. Plus there is beer when you get done (or gatorade)!
