Why would Manchester United sign Owen?

They have a wealth of strikers right now. They need some creative midfielders in the worst way, particularly to replace Keane when he retires. I am not sure about Smith being the replacement.

On that note, what the hell has happened to Owen? They are talking about ManU getting him for $6 million transfer fee.

real madrid is run by people who want the new "thing" and its a stupid way to run a club.

6 million dollars or 6 million pounds? I heard 6 million pounds. I agree they need more help in midfield but SAF seems to think that Smith can fill the role. With RVN still struggling and Saha being injured all the time, they really have only one striker that they can count on and is consistent for the time being. I think Owen would be a good pickup for the depth he brings if nothing else, and if it is indeed only $6 million to acquire him, then they are getting a steal.

Its been talked that ManU is shopping out Saha right now for a return to Le Championnatte. And if ManU doesn't take him now then he's going to be way more expensive next year because someone's gonna jump on this guy. 100 premiership goals at the tender age of 25 is rediculous.

Well, he is desperate to get out considering his position on the 2006 World Cup team is in peril if he is not a first team choice and he obviously is not. But how will that change at ManU? Rooney is not going anywhere and RVN might just return to form.

Or RVN could be injured and miss a penalty kick like he has done on ManU's asian tour. This guy is too good to miss on, you talk about an absolute vulture in front of the goal, but ManU does have good options, just consider that one of them is getting older and having some injury complications. The midfield needs a lot of work still and I know that the reserve side is supposed to surge forward this year and possibly repeat the quadruple of last year but you can't guarantee first team success through the reserve team. If Smith is moving to the middle of the park I don't see why you don't get Owen if not just to keep him from a midtable team, if he's not scoring for you then he's scoring against you.

I agree that Owens is too talented to not take a feeler on. A partnership of Owen and Rooney has me salivating. The big problem ManU had last year was scoring...their defense was stout. But they need a creative midfielder. Believe it or not, they really miss Beckham. For all the talk of him not being world class, he really did set those strikers up and on set plays he is one of the world's best.

Yes, signing Owen would be a great move, but just move off one of the other strikers to make room. There is no point in keeping Saha if you bring on Owen. Ole gives you depth at the position.

That's counting a lot on a guy that hasn't played in what...18 months? (referring to Ole). Anyway, moot point as it looks like ManU has said they aren't interested, but Newcastle seems to be. A tandem of Owen and Shearer would be impressive even if the latter is getting up in age. If it weren't for Souness being their coach, I'd say an Owen transfer would put them in a UEFA cup spot at the least.

Sven released a statement today saying that he'd like ManU to pick up Owen, got to be salivating having your top 2 strikers on the same club. Its like everyday is WC practice.

Damn Dre, you are going to have to get over Souness having sex with your wife. That was a long time ago and that wound needs to heal. All kidding aside, that is what Newcastle gets for firing a legend.

ManU is back in the Owen derby.

Well said. The only thing worse that Souness' ability to manage is the board. I mean not only did the fire a legend, they replaced said legend with a guy who was managing a team at the bottom of the EPL. I think Blackburn should give Newcastle a Christmas card

If anyone ever wants to get a rise out of me, just call Graham Souness a quality manager. (And I'm not even a huge Newcastle supporter...just think what some Geordie in England thinks of him)

Newcastle deserves better than what they are getting. Hell, at the end of last year the players turned on themselves.

Wait, that was quite funny.

With Newcastle being knocked out of Europe he won't be going to them. Liverpool has made a surprise reentry into the derby. ManU has freed up some room by selling Neville.

Who knows. He might end up at ManU. But RVN has been tearing it up lately during the preseason. I still don't see a need for him.

The Barcodes & Souness are crap.
They should be much better than they are right now.

Well if Newcastle can sign Owen, then they have their replacement for Shearer.
