Well, Ags, someone very close to me will be calling the coaches of one of our Big 12 rivals within the next couple of days to commit. Since she has yet to make that call, I don't feel at liberty to say which school she'll be attending. I can say it will not be Aggieland, but I'm very proud of her as she has worked very hard to receive this opportunity. I'm also happy that she will be in the Big 12 so I can watch her play AND keep up with her and her team as I keep up with Aggie soccer. You may ask why I'm posting this nebulous information. I would answer by telling you that I'm so excited for her that I can't contain myself. Having been reared by two Aggies, she will always have the maroon and white in her heart. So, when you're at a soccer game remember that the opposing players on the field may be closer to you than you think.

did we not recruit her, or did she just want to play somewhere else?

Well, although she performed very well at Coach G's camp this summer and managed to catch the eye of several coaches, she was not actively recruited by our staff. I will say that Coach G has a reputation for getting the #1 players in the country at her position so it's not a knock on her or the team she'll be playing for that A&M did not recruit her. Of course, since I AM biased, I think the Ags may have missed out on a true sleeper.

well i hope she wins every game she plays there except against us,.. and never finishes ahead of us in conference / nationally... unless she is going to t.u. in which case i hope she loses every game she ever plays for the rest of her life!

It's official (well, as official as it can be at this point) - Boomer Aggies! Gig 'em Sooners! I guess this is going to take some practice.

I would post a pic as requested, but I really don't want to subject my daughter's photo to the Photoshop wizards or leave it open for "hottie" debate fodder.

and everyone hushes on the post a pic talk as he reveals it's his daughter.

Funny.

Not saying i don't agree, but that's funny.

MeteorAg...it is indeed funny. Almost as funny as my revealing myself. I did have to explain to her that I would be cheering for the Ags to win when we play OU because maroon is thicker than blood.

As I recall the OU uniforms are almost Maroon in color. Sure was hard to get used to when the Ags played them.

RolloTomasi:

I bleed deep maroon. However, if my daughter signed a scholarship to play Div.1/Big XII soccer at Oklahoma, I would support her team regardless of who they are playing (including the Ags).

Congrats to your daughter (and you)! That's a very exciting accomplishment. I'm sure you are proud.

Diego,

Thanks for the wishes. I am indeed proud of her because she has worked very hard at her sport AND her grades. Grades DO matter in the sports where scholarships are so limited (only 12 for soccer).

I do now have to confess that I've thought about this some more and I will have to pull for her team no matter who they are playing - even the Ags. Her position is one where if she has a great game they shouldn't lose and I have to always pull for her play her best.

If soccer can only award 12 scholarships, how do the Aggies carry 30 players on their roster? Are most of them walk-ons? Or do the coaches award partial scholarships?

Based on what I've seen and heard, there are several ways that schools can and do handle it, but almost all involve giving partial scholarships and seldomly, if ever, giving full scholarships. The most common practice (to MY limited knowledge) is that freshmen receive small partials. Once they have proven that they are committed, they get a larger partial as a sophmore and then close to full as juniors and seniors. Also, I can only assume that some players are outright walk-ons.

The NCAA had approved 2 additional scholarships for women's soccer in February (or around that time) last year and then inexplicably suspended that decision in July.
