For those of you who don't know, the Aggie Softball team will be playing in the Houston area this weekend at the Spring-Klein College Tournament. The tourney is Fri-Sat-Sun, but our group plays three games on Saturday (11:00, 1:00 and 5:00) and then two on Sunday (11:00 and 1:00). Other teams who will be playing are tu, tt, OU, Baylor, USM, ULL, NMSU, UNT, Texas St., Nichols St., Cougar High and jucos such as Alvin, Blinn, San Jac, Texarkana and Galveston.

This is top notch collegate softball. Cat Osterman will be there, as will Amanda and the balance of the Aggie squad.

The games are being played at Collins Park, located between Steubner-Airline and Kuykendahl on Cypresswood Dr. in Klein. All softball players who wear their teams uni top get in for free and adults are $5.00 for a weekend pass to all games. Parking will be tough, as these games are very well attended. Parking areas are adjacent to the softball fields, and behind the Barbara Bush Library next to Collins Park.

As promised:

SATURDAY 15th GAMES
TAMU- 21
Alvin CC- 0

TAMU- 7
ULL- 3

TAMU- 5
NMSU- 0

OTHERS
NMSU- 4
OU- 3

TT- 6
Blinn-3

TU- 1
TSU- 1

Baylor- 12
San Jac- 2

TT-6
USM-3

NOTES:
(1). Baylor looks real good; saw them play parts of all of their games; very solid team.
(2). TT won some games, but didn't play that well; decent pitching.
(3). NMSU is a good, solid team. They have good pitching, and good team defense; good fundamentals.
(4). Without Cat Osterman, while they are improved, tu doesn't have much.
(5). Texas St. looked real good; remember Kristin Gunter? She plays for the Bobcats now. They battled TU every pitch, with the game being called due to a time restriction. Ags play Bobcats at 11:00 AM Sunday 16th.
(6). Ags look good. Pitching is strong again, girls made good decisions on the field, and there was some long ball hitting too. Might be to early to tell, but we will be very competitive. Sharonda McDonald didn't play, even though she was suited up.

Ags play @ 11:00 AM Sunday vs. TSU & 1:00 vs. UNT. All scores will be available at Springkleingirlssoftball.com late Sunday.

Is that first game seriously 21-0. That's crazy. Way to go Ags, keep it up. And thanks for the scores.

Soccerfan05:

I didn't see all of that game: My daughter and I left when the score was 7-0, since we were driving to Kyle for football; we returned after the football game (just in time to watch the NMSU game) and I was told the scoreboard was turned off when the score hit 11-0 but the game went on anyway.

Final report (maybe).

I am now being told that the 21-0 game was actually 26-0.

Sunday 16th scores:
TAMU- 9
TSU- O

TAMU- 5
UNT- 1

NMSU- 3
UH- 1

TU- 7
ULL- 4

(1). Sharonda played against UNT, but hitting only; did not see her play in the outfield.
(2). After sleeping some, I am changing my thoughts on a few things:
A. We could very well be a lot better than last year, and we weren't bad then. We can flat out rip the ball. I am not sure how many we hit out, but I can recall maybe six or seven, and those were hammered. Mind you, the fences at SKGSL are 210' all the way around, and outside of ULL, we didn't see any BIG XII level pitching, but still. Believe me, we are not afraid to swing the bat.
B. Not forgetting anybody else, but Ronda Smith (F, Baytown Sterling) and Patti Wunderlich (F, Vancouver, Wash) played extremely well. Patti has a gun for an arm and can hit very well. Ronda can flat out hit, and she covers the outfield with ease in CF. Holly Ridley (F, Sugar Land Clements) is an excellent SS; covers ground very well.
C. The pitching staff is deep, in fact maybe five arms deep: Amanda, Megan, Lisa, Jill and Christina are talented and would make anybody's ball club. We might very well have the best set of arms in the BIG XII.
3. ULL has a good team, a very good team. They gave TU all they could handle in their game, and they are a well coached ball club. I believe they won 51 games last year, and they could do it again. They are a good team, deep in every spot.
4. TU is better than last year, if only because of Meagan Denny. I still think that if you remove Cat, they are an above average team at best.
5. Good luck to Nichols St. They are a great group of kids, and the kids have some nice parents.

Oh well, enough softball for this weekend.

we WILL be better than last year...Ronda and Holly Ridley are HUGE additions to the team...expect great things from these girls, Ronda brings power which was lacking in left field last year as does Ridley...these girls can hit and will only increase the streangth of our already potente offense and if scarbarough stays away from injury i expect to see this team at the WS atleast

It would sure be a plus to get Sharonda back, but even if we don't, we are going to be tough. I would advise that people buy season tickets now...

I dont think power was lacking in left field last year. Jana James lead the team in hits, third in RBI's, third in runs scored, third in slugging percentage and fifth in batting average.

She was one of the most consistent and dependable hitters that always at least put the ball in play.

These new girls are good but Jana will be hard to replace.

Does anybody know anything about a batting stance called "rotational hitting/batting?" I watched our girls this weekend and they basically all stand the same way in the box. I asked my daughter's hitting coach on her select team, and evidently this type of batting stance/hitting position is something new that is being taught to players now. Any suggestions for reading material?
