NCAA Division I Women Soccer Rankings
I compiled a ranking by essentially averaging all five of the rating agencies.
The following are the Top 20:
1 Portland
2 North Carolina
3 Penn State
4 UCLA
5 Norte Dame
6 Virginia
7 Florida State
8 California
9 Santa Clara
10 Duke
11 Texas A&M
12 Connecticut
13 Tennessee
14 Marquette
15 Pepperdine
16 Cal St Fullerton
17 Boston College
18 BYU
19 USC
20 Gonzaga
Seven of the Top 20 teams (Duke, Connecticut, Tennessee, Cal St Fullerton, BYU, USC, & Gonzaga) are out of the tournament.
A big difference between PS and us is our schedule, mainly our lack of a competitive schedule. PS played and beat four of the top 20 teams (UCLA, Virginia, Connecticut, & USC). We played none.
We lost to unranked teams; PS’ only “lost” was in PKs to Michigan (at Michigan).
We have an excellent team but we are not use to playing top-notch competitive teams. Next year will be different. From what I have read, in 2006 we play North Carolina, Penn State, UCLA, Santa Clara, and Illinois. This will easily be one of the top competitive schedules in the US.
We will have to beat PS and probably Santa Clara to get to the Final 4.
Let's hope that our young ladies play an excellent game and earn a well-deserved Elite 8 spot. BTHOPS
