Did anyone catch the telecast of the Portland/Penn State game on ESPN2?

I watched most of the second OT, and I was pleased with the visual presentation of our soccer stadium. The field looked great, lighting was excellent and the stadium impressive. Did the commentators have any discussion about the facility that I missed?

As to the game, Portland had a player that looked incredible. Much taller than the other girls on the field but seemed to have as good or better speed and coordination than her smaller counterparts. I was pulling for Penn State because we were in their bracket, but Portland was an outstanding team. The portion of the game that I saw was college soccer played at the highest level. Congrats to Portland on the win.

Both teams were VERY impressive..
The Penn State goalie was very good as well..
I can't imagine how good Sinclair is as she appeared to be favoring her right leg and can't imagine her much better

She had 2 goals again today. Great player and that first game was by far the most entertaining of the 3. Penn St. goalie made some huge saves and #4 for Penn St. had two rocket free kicks that were very dangerous. One went off the crossbar and the second forced an incredible save. Great game all around.

Can the NCAA please explain why the best 2 teams in the nation were in the same bracket (Portland & Penn State)? The Portland/Penn State match was the real National Championship game, as evidenced by Portland's blowout of UCLA.

Texas A&M is the best team in the nation and we were put in the same region as the 2nd best team (portland) we just got outscored before we got to the title game

Awesome weekend. The stadium looked mostly full but the announced crowds were around 6500. That is a bad representation of the university. I imagine 5000 were from the 100 and something club teams that were there. With support like that, I doubt we ll land an another NC anytime soon.

This was my first game at the ASC and I have some observations and a question.

First the not-so-good observation. The temp stands on the west side had too many obstructions. We got there early enough on Sunday to get good seats in the east stands, but on Friday we were having to look past the light posts, speakers, or covered benches that were in our line of vision.

Now the good observation, the field is fantastic and I like the way the permanent stands run right up to the sidelines, same with the bleachers on the end lines.

Now my question is: Are there plans to add more seating on the west side? If so, I do hope they either move the lights or arrange the seating so there are no obstructions.

What I would like to see them do is move the soccer stadium just west of the present stadium. Turn the current west side seats around which will make it the east side of the stadium. Add new seating with light standards behind the seating on what will be the new west side. Then put a covered facility where the current aggie soccer field is. That way it can be used by track and field as an indoor facility, by women's softball, women's soccer along with men's baseball in january and the early part of February. That would be the most optimum use of that area and you wouldn't have to be moving a bunch of light standards.

I too was sitting in the west stands and had to deal with the obstructions, but to be honest there was really nothing they could do about it. I just made sure I had a view of the video screen in case the play went behind one of the poles. I've heard rumors of adding west stands but I don't think it's going to happen in the immedaite future. I'm sure they'll be smart enough to move the lights if/when they do.

As for attendance, I couldn't find the numbers from the past 3 or 4 years but I think the numbers have been steadily dropping since the San Jose St high of 14,000 after the '99 World Cup...as has the majority of attendance in women's soccer. 6500 on a day that was freaking freezing isn't horrible and you're kidding yourself if you think the majority of fans in previous championships weren't girl's soccer groups so that's nothing to complain about.

If we continue to top the list in attendance year after year, with our facility, we'll always have a shot at a College Cup.

I got there early enough to secure our usual seats. We were joined by many of our players and their parents as well as some little girls from Portland holding the signs they made at the table. Overall I loved it, great atmosphere. Except for Soccer Head. Get rid of that dude...

Amen to that. He means well but he's everything that can be wrong with soccer fans in the US. Nothing like a little contrived passion...
