A 2nd player in the span of 4 years has had to retire from volleyball because of back problems. I ran into courtney mccrocklin at the rec today (bright was closed) and she told me that she had learned last week that she had to retire because of her back, but unlike lexy, she'll remain in Texas A&M to finish her degree.

DJ, thanks for the tip. That is very sad to hear, I understand she has been fighting through the pain for a long time. I'm grateful for what she was able to contribute to Aggie Volleyball and wish her the best of luck in her future pursuits.

This opens another scholarship, but unfortunately most of the top players (that we would be able to get) have already signed/announced at this point.
OH was by far our weakest spot this year. After Laura we had no consistent depth, even though the other girls had some great games between them over the course of the season. We even split with Baylor this year, and their recruiting seems to have picked up recently, although the Corbellis can still coach circles around most of the other mid-major folks out there.

We'll just have to hope all those OH sophs and incoming frosh will start to show their stuff in '06. But right now I think we need to take advantage of this opening to snag a SETTER. If we can't pick up a setter in the spring signing period, I think we need to put SERIOUS effort into a top-notch setter for '07.

I know Kainz still has two years left, but it would have been really nice to pick up Taylor Barnes this year. After Jenna and Lexy we really haven't had a similar setter who can improve the ball to maximize the offense. I know I keep harping on this, but Kelsey Bryant has done so well on the right side and (assuming she stays there) will become a serious force in the next two years as long as we have a setter who can nail the back-sets. To my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong), we have NO ONE on the setting bench behind Kainz right now - which is the worst position to lack backup.
