Maybe Sampras in his prime could compete with this guy but I don't see anyone else being on the same plane. Of course there are those that will mention Borg put that was a different era with wooden rackets.

If Federer can ever win the French then he is in my mind the greatest tennis player of all time.

On a serious note, I think Federer is great and greatest of this era but I don't think you can ever name a greatest of all time. Lest we forget how unstoppable Sampras seemed just ten years ago.

Yes, Sampras was damned impressive ten years ago. However, Sampras had moments when his service game was in the toilet. Federer is not as dependent on his service game as Sampras.

Yes, if both are on their "A" game then it would be a tough one to call. However, it is arguable that Federer is more consistent and therefore is more likely to have his "A" game.

Also, Sampras was crap on clay. Although Federer has yet to win a French he plays much better on that surface than Sampras ever did.

pete was never this dominant...last year fed had probably the best yr ever (maybe mcenroe when we went 89-3) was 90-4 and he had match points in 2 of the losses and served for the match in another one...the only match he was truly beaten was in the semis of the french by nadal...he has now set the record for most consecutive hard court wins he is at 50 this is the best stat in terms of dominence b/c its the fairest surface..not to mention 24-1 in his last 25 finals appearances that is pure dominance against a damn good opponent that reached the finals...he is the only man to win wimby and us open back to back in consecutive yrs and will most likely win 3 of 4 again this year...fed has no weakness, plays great defense and is the most creative player, sampras could get his backhand exposed and his returns were shaky..
