She's just lost the killer instinct. If she believed herself instead of what everyone else is saying she would still be able to do it. Just look at the men's 30km pursuit. Guy gets in a smashup at the starting line and leaves the stadium in last place comes back to win the silver. Look at Chad Hedrick, hee just started skating 3 years ago. He still is not a very technically adept skater, but he won gold last night because he believed in himself and gave it everything.

If you have ever played a sport and actually been injured, especially a groin injury which she is dealing with, you would know that it is next to impossible to perform at your best.

Then she shouldn't have gone in the first place. When she got the medical bye she promised she would be ready to compete. She should have stayed home and let Hughes go.

Hughes is getting to compete...what's your point?

my point is she was just looking for the publicity. she knew before she couldnt compete. thats what happens when your sport only exists once every 4 years

The article said she looked really good in her trial routine. Take that for what you will, whoever you are...

uhmm it said that she RE-injured her groin injury in her first practice over in Italy. I seriously doubt she would have gone if she couldnt perform at the time.

Injuries, especially in sports are a mysterious thing. You can think you are totally healed and even have doctors clear you but one little accident can cause something to act up again.

It just wasnt in her cards to win the gold medal at the Olympucs, nevertheless you cant wlak away saying she hasnt done alot for the sport. In fact I believe it was her 4th place finish at the last World Championships that secured 3 spots for the US instead of just 2...so in essence she kind of contributed to the fact that the other girl now get to compete.

Although I do find it odd that the alternate wouldnt travel. When Kwan was a backup in Lillehammer when the Tonya Harding fiasco was going on ..she(Kwan) traveled to the Olympics so I wonder what is up with the other girl not making the trip at all..

so thats why she got the special treatment anyways. if it was anybody else they wouldve said no to her special trial.

it's what happens when you're one of the biggest ambassadors for the sport. go sit in the corner with your dunce hat.

They said earlier that Kwan paid her own way to Lillehamer. I agree that she had done amazing things for the sport, but her time has passed.

Are you people effing kidding me?

She didn't withdraw because she "lost that killer instinct". Does someone who has lost the killer instinct go through the trouble of hurrying back from an injury to make the Olympics? Please.

Maybe, but it's not her fault she REINJURED her groin. When the panel saw her skate, they obviously thought she was healthy enough to warrant a spot. Yet somehow she's the bad guy.

And what publicity is that? The publicity of putting herself into a potentially bad situation where people can question her integrity? Yeah, that sounds like great publicity...sign me up.

Well, pardon me and anyone else who thinks that 9 U.S. Champioships and 5 World Championships warrants some special treatment.

She figured she would have "healed" in a few weeks?

She should have stayed home and had Hughes go to begin with.

How does a figure skater have a killer instinct?

Good post soccerfan...she is a wuss, and lost her killer instinct, and she just wanted publicity, and she should have just let Hughes go. But also.....she should have just stayed home instead of ever trying to heal up and compete in the first place. Which is what happened anyways.

Sounds like you really know who the true Michelle Kwan is. Thanks for the enlightenment, and the play by play....sort of.
