The Aggie Athletics site says "All Day". Does anyone know the times that the meet will be going on? All Day is rather vague...

I believe the meet this weekend is the Texas Senior Circuit Sectionals meet. The meet is not a NCAA meet. It is a USA Swimming meet. Some Aggies will be swimming as a last opportunity to make NCAA times.

The real swimming entertainment this weekend is the American Short Course Championships in Austin. Michael Phelps and a whole bunch of elite/Olympic swimmers are swimming. Crocker, Peirsol, Hansen, Lezak, etc. are swimming. Expect some American records to fall this weekend.

Maybe I've been out a few too many years, but I thought that Senior Circuit was just long course (summer). You're right about sectionals being a USS meet though.

I don't know how the team is doing it this year, but I think they ussually use this meet as a chance to qualify for US nationals. I don't know if these times can count for NCAA consideration. Anyone know?

Oh, to answer the question most USS meets have a morning session (about 8-noon) then finals in the evening probably starting about 5. That is just a guess, but something along those lines.

Senior Circuit hosts the Sectionals meet. I think USS times can be used for NCAAs. Eddie Reese said some of his swimmers were swimming in Austin this weekend specifically for that reason. A few are racing just to swim against some of the best.

Men can qualify for NCAA's this weekend, women can't -- their deadline has passed

the 1,000's will be tonight with the following three days being just regular prelims/finals in the morning and evening; it is not a collegiate meet; A&M will probably be the only college team there

The meet, as I understand it, will be in yards not meters (SC or LC)

deadlines...that explains why no Texas girls are swimming at the meet in Austin. It's a shame both meets are on the same weekend. A&M's guys will have little competition to push them. I think Sectionals will be dominated by fast 13-18 year olds. The fastest in these age groups will be in Austin.

Phelps set an American record in the 400 IM - beat the old record (from 1995) by almost 2 seconds. Longhorn Aquatics set an American record in the 200 medley relay.

More to come over the next two days.

i'm not sure about all the other stuff, but I just saw this on the aggie athletics site...
M SWIM All Day Fri 3rd-5th
Speedo Sectionals
W SWIM All Day Fri 3rd-5th
Speedo Sectionals

I'm going to be around town this weekend and thought I would catch some swimming, but the website doesn't say time really...

BQ - look at the link I posted above and look at the meet invitational.

I don't recommend going to prelims unless you want to watch a lot of heats. Go to finals which start at 5 p.m. on Friday and Sat. Finals start at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Or drive to Austin tomorrow and watch an even better meet.

oh, thanks spicewood. Totally didn't see that part of the site...
I'm probably just going to watch a little tonight and mabe a little bit of the meet tomorrow morning. The main reason I am going is to look at form, esp freestyle. I'm getting into Triathalons this year and my swimming form sucks and watching helps me out. After the meets I'm heading to Seguin to do a duathlon, so I won't be going to Austin, but that sounds like quite a lineup.

It turns out that at least two Ags are swimming in Austin. Tyler Welch and Bojan Zdesar are both redshirts.

Your interest in the swim meet is noble. I swim Masters and train with some triathletes. I don't know what your swimming skill is but I'd look at the freestylers swimming slightly longer events (200+ especially). I see many triathletes with strokes that are too short and strokes that "cross over" the imaginary center line underneath your body. Also - notice how the best swimmers spend an amazing amount of time on theirs hips/sides. Many people swim too flat.
