Houston Dynamo

I hope the freaking team falls flat and is a huge bust since they gave in and changed the name. I didn't care about soccer in Houston before and now I sure can't stand it.

I thought the name was decently clever and the fact that they caved in to a bunch of PC rhetoric is pathetic.

They changed the name on the day the Alamo fell.

I am offended.

I'm not real happy with the fact that they pretty much got rid of all references to the history of houston. i thought the sam houston statue on the 1836 logo was a nice touch.

Plus, they screwed up the Dynamo name. There are at least a couple of Russian teams with Dynamo in their name (Dynamo Moscow, Dynamo Kiev). Dynamo Houston would have been a better choice for me.

Like most everybody, I thought 1836 was a winner. Sounded cool, classic, etc. Dynamo does nothing for me. It's better than Energy which was kicked around for Texans, not sure about soccer team.

If you're going to reach why not reach far? I would have preferred Houston Fire Ants. Sorta silly, but would have been a cool logo. Guaranteed to be a big seller.

I'm embarassed for the management of this team. The way this whole thing has played out is just bad.

I think it's funny that if all the hispanics really were upset about 1836 and the Sam Houston statue in the logo...then wouldn't they also be pretty mad that their town is named after the same guy? I've never really heard them make an uproar about it before. Isn't "Houston Dynamo" still offensive?

"Dinamo" was part of the name of the Soviet athletic commission. Wonderful, we named our team after commies.

I always liked the club Cy-Fair Dynamos name, if you know Houston club soccer then you should know this club. At least there's some history to the name in this area.

Heh I played on the Dynamos whenever I played club soccer. While I think it's cool they chose basically the same name I have to ask the question, why is it so hard to come up with something original?

I am surprised that there has not been a massive public outrage over the offensive nature of this name. Considering the recent mining accidents which have resulted in deaths, to use a name which sounds like dynamite, which was once used in the mining industry, seems like an affront to all those effected by these accidents. Considering that this has effected both americans and mexicans, you would think that everyone would be offended and that no one would go to the game. Afterall, if something that happened 170 years ago, and which was really not offensive to anyone, can be considered offensive, why is this not?

I don't even give a crap about soccer, but the changing of the name because of a few pc folks was ridiculous.

I will always be a true Hotshots fan at heart. I can't remember one single Hotshots game that I've ever missed.

I also can't remember one Hotshots game that I've ever seen. I can however recall one Hotshots highlight on Channel 13 (ABC), probably about 12-14 years ago when they showed local mascots playing soccer during halftime. If I remember correctly, the Splashtown mascot scored a goal.
