For those who might want to know. Pepperdine beat Texas today in Palo Alto 4-1 ending one of the finest seasons ever for the Longhorns. The Horns beat Ole Miss in the round of 16 and topped OSU in one of the closest matches I have ever seen. Winning 4-3 when Micky Varela won 7-6 (7-5) after being down 5-2 in the breaker.

Baylor is playing Georgia this afternoon. Bears get lucky not having to play Stanford at the stadium but instead in San Francisco at an indoor facility. Look for UGA vs Pepperdine finals with UGA winning. Pepperdine is a fine team but woeful at 5 and 6 singles.....

rik: Congratulations on a fine run at Stanford. Your guys have every reason to be proud. The Big XII having two in the final four is encouraging. Have a safe trip back to Texas.

Raven..thank you for the props. It was overall the best season for Texas Tennis. Besides making it to the final four, Texas had three all americans. Helgeson made it to the quarters, Beale became a two time aa in singles and doubles and Verela was named all tournament team and earned doubles aa.

The win vs Ohio State in he quarters will go down as one of the greatest matches ever at the NCAA tournament. Down 2-5 in the breaker final set at #5 singles Varela won 5 straight points to win the dual. OSU had a great team . The Horns just took it from them.

While I know this is an Aggie site, I want to be respectful realizing there are a few that just hate Texas reguardless. However, it was a great tournament for Texas and I thought some might want to know. We are all Texans.

Out of curiosity, are you the horn fan that acts like a child at the tennis matches?

no that would be Matt Knoll. He really is a horn fan but wears green alot. Although I have heard that he wears a burnt orange sweater vest at home.

We would have had a shot but for the tough loss of Connor Pollock to injury. Looking forward to a stronger team next year. Congrats to Coach Cass and the guys for another Top 20 season.

Isal...I was very impressed with CP when the Aggies played in Austin. He moves well and anticipates as well as guys much older than him. He was Big 12 rookie of the year however I think Miguel Varela had just as good of year especially considering that he made All American and was on the sweet 16 all tournament team as a freshman. I assume CP was chosen due to the fact that he played singles higher in the overall line-up than Verela. On the other hand Verela was the best doubles player hands down in the Big 12 playing at #1 with Callum Beale who wound up being AA in both singles and doubles.
Either way, it will be fun to watch these two compete over the next few seasons. Both are currrent and future stars in the Big 12.
