I guess this signifies that the "Beckham Rule" is all but official in MLS as NYRB couldn't have offered that contract if it wasn't imminent. (Unless that used some technicality by offering a marketing contract worth that much but I don't think MLS would let them get away with that)

If so, the Beckham Rule will completely change soccer in the US.

For the few teams willing and able to spend that type of cash on a star player it will really help by challenging the community to come watch a superstar in the sport, but other than that I don't see many teams laying down that much cash (considering 8 teams are owned by two people). Could help the league gain some respect internationally and bring in some real talent to help expand the league.
