It was a very well done piece, probably one of the best they have done in a long while.

They talked about the widespread racism by club fans across Europe. They chronicled several incidents of racism by fans, players and managers. They also interviewed Thierry Henry and the president of FIFA. Henry talked about getting spit on and the monkey taunts he faced. He also talked about the anti racism ad he did last year. The president of FIFA talked about rules in place for this year's World Cup. If a player or manager displays any racism they will be docked 3 points and the match will be abandoned.

I had read about the Eto'o and Zoro incidents, but had no idea racism was so widespread in Europe.

Here is an article on the same subject.

Wow. Did Jayson Blair write that article for the Times?

I totally read a very similar article just 2 days ago in USA Today. Thats so cheap.

I'm sure USA Today wasn't the first to cover the topic but writing about the topic 2 days after a rival newspaper is cheap. I can understand if it is a current event topic (for ex. "11 die in suicide attack". Those are things everyone writes about, but this is a general on-going topic.

Anyone have the specials (HBO and ESPN) in a downloadable format?

Or perhaps someone with HBO on demand (or something like it) can record the Real Sports episode for me.

Racism is rampant among the working class men who attend soccer games, not among the political and social elites. Two totally different Europes.

The only Real Sports on there now is episode 110 with Paul Tagliabue, the Duke Lacrosse scandal, and the UT softball coach. It will probably be on demand later but it will probably be a while.

Last December, Paulo Di Canio, a striker for the Italian club Lazio, was suspended for giving fans a straight-arm, Nazi-style salute. He said he was supporting fascism, not racism.

I'm glad he cleared that up - he wasn't promoting racism, only fascism.

I'll bet that makes the soccer world feel better about this fine, upstanding athlete.

it was pretty funny watching those two talk about the world cup. it was fairly obvious neither has really watched a game of soccer in their lives.

Gator, that is not true at all.

For those displaying such shock and awe of european racism....read some history.

WWII was only conlcuded only 61 years ago, yeah, Hitler was a bad dude, but just about all European countries were/are anti-semitic (sp?), hell Stalin killed almost as many jews (if not more) in his purges (along with millions of Russian citizens).

Ethnic cleansing in Bosnia, as recent as the 90s.

You are talking about a continent, specifically an area of a continent, including England/Britain, that has warred for hundreds of year, depsite the fact that if they did not speak to you it would be difficult to tell a French-man from a German from a Pole, from a Czech....and they were warring over ideologies and political systems, much less different skin color.

Europe conquered/settled much of Africa and held colonies well into the 1900s, the most progressive European state as far as race relations is probably France, due to Algeria and Morocco, but they still have rampant problems.

It's a real problem over there, but is in most parts of the world. Asians are racist, Arabs are racist, there is still slavery in Africa, etc., etc., etc.
