Looks like we got the qtr final match we all wanted!

FCD advances past the Charleston Battery thanks to a Kenny Cooper hat-trick+1. The Hoops needed overtime and a penalty shootout(including a 4th penalty kick goal by Cooper) to win this one and avanced 5-3 on penalty kicks.

Houston's Dynamo took care of business and put away the Dynamo from Carolina, 4-2. This match looks like it was never in doubt for the lads from Houston as the closest Carolina got was 3-2 in the 71st minute.

Missed my first Dynamo game today but by all accounts they dominated with the exception of about a 10 minute stretch in the second when 3-0 became 3-2. Haven't seen any write-ups on the FCD game but it looks like Dallas was somewhat fortunate as Charleston was ahead 3-2 until the last minute of extra time. Of course, it took an injury time PK by Charleston to send it to extra time and I have no idea if it was a legit PK...one never knows with MLS refs.

Anyway, bknetag can correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like FCD and Houston will play at Robertson on Aug 23rd. That means 3 games in about 3 weeks between the clubs.

Dre you are right. Since San Jose finished ahead of Dallas in last years open cup, we will host the match on August 23rd.

we have Dallas on August 12th (Go Oranage night) then away at RSL then back home for the Open Cup qtr final with FCD on the 23rd.

Houston toyed with Carolina last night with a split squad, the game could have easily been 8-2. De Ro came in for the second half and had open chance after open chance at the top of the box but chose to do some fancy footwork and pass the ball. Carolina's goalie had a few brilliant saves but the game was not much of a game.

I was shocked when listening to the FCD and Charlston game. if Charlston had won, we would have gone there to play.

I am a big soccer (though usually the MNT and international soccer) and growing fan of the MLS so i am still learning the details and such of teams...so; why do we call FCD "hoops"? I know that they used to be called the Burn and now it is mainly FC Dallas, but when and where did "hoops" come in?

thanks for helping me in my MLS knowledge.

Sugar...

their uniform is made up of red and white "hoops", like stripes around the uniform

I attached a picture. I think Hoops comes from Scotland originally. Yeah I was right. Celtic (edit mistake)

Oh dear, did you just call them "Celtic Rangers"? You do realize Celtic and Rangers are two different teams, and possibly the most bitter rivals in sports? That picture you showed is Celtic.

There are also a few other teams in various places that play in hoops, like Queens Park Rangers in London.

On the bandwagon since birth. Raised in the bleachers of Kyle, Olsen, and G. Rollie White

bknetag,

Thanks. Actually a pretty cool nickname/tag that carries a good overall soccer tradition.

Being from Dallas and now living in Houston i have begun keeping up with FCD and the Dynamo. This just adds to the interest.

can't imagine the orange and black overload that would have occurred had the battery won the match and then faced Dynamo!
