thought that was a bit odd myself, only 3 players on the big 12 team, yet A&M is one of the best programs in the country?

The same could be said for Nebraska since they only have two players on the list yet are picked 2nd in the conference. I don't think it really matters who is picked for the preseason all-conference team. The players who deserve all-conference honors will earn it by the end of the season and it's likely their respective team's records will reflect the individual player's efforts.
