In Nebraska, If they play like they did Sunday early, we may take a game.

But they could come together. There is always a chance.

Our SID's press release says:
quote:
A&M, which has dropped the last 14 matches against the Huskers, is 11-14 overall and 4-13 in the Big 12 after falling to Iowa State, 3-2, Sunday in College Station. The Aggies must defeat Nebraska, as well as Texas Tech and Missouri in the final three matches of the regular season to finish .500 and be eligible for consideration for postseason play.

NCAA SELECTION

The announcement of the 64-team NCAA Championship field will be made Sunday, Nov. 26 at 1:30 p.m. (CST) on ESPNews. The Final Four will be held in Omaha, Neb., with the championship match slated for Dec. 16 at the Quest Center.

Texas A&M has made 13 consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament. The Aggies, however, must win each of their three remaining matches to finish .500, a requirement to be considered for postseason play.

This isn't exactly true. The goal of the NCAA postseason is to reward winning programs. A .500 record isn't winning, it's a tie. The Volleyball Championship handbook actually states:
quote:
For NCAA team-championship selection purposes[....]thirty-one conferences have been granted automatic qualification for the 2006 championship. The remaining teams will be selected at large. Teams must have a won-loss record better than .500 to be considered for an at-large berth. [emphasis added]

That is to say, a final record of .501 is enough to qualify for postseason, but a final record of exactly .500 DISQUALIFIES your team from postseason consideration. Even if we win our remaining matches (against opponents who've already beat us this year, two of which were home matches) we can only achieve 14-14. The NCAA has been known to ignore their own rules when it suits their purposes, but although I've seen W-L records like 14-13 or 17-16, I can't offhand remember a team in the tournament that has had a final record with equal wins and losses.

But it doesn't matter, we have too many bad losses. Baylor has a better record (17-12) and beat us on our own court in our last meeting. They have as much of a chance of winning out as we do, but even if they lose all four of their remaining matches they will be at 17-16, which is the "better than .500" described in the NCAA rule book.

Doesn't look good. NU is up 2-0 and just took the lead in the 3rd game.

AWOL just like last week.
Makes you wonder if the SID is talking to the AD and the IT dept.
