How are the Ags expected to do this year? Do you think we will be the favorites for the Big XII? I know we were last year and that didn't work out. We are returning most of our top players are we not? What about new additions to the team. Where do you think we will be in the polls preseason?

With Cat gone, I definitely see us being potential favorites. All the core players are coming back, with a few great freshman additions. One player to watch is Macie Morrow, who should play outfield and bat behind Sharonda. She is just as fast and a better hitter, so our 1-2 punch at the top of the lineup should be tough to handle. I definitely see this team doing some great things this season!

The problem is that the Aggie Softball needs leadership. They only have one Senior by classification/eligibility.

I don't know where you got your information but it's just wrong. Jill Weynand, Joy Davis, Beverly Rowan, Sharonda McDonald, Christina Smith, and Lisa Gorzycki are all seniors. Plus the junior class of Amanda Scarborough, Megan Gibson, Jami Lobpries, and Jamie Hinshaw provide some pretty good leadership as well.

My mistake. That was last years team that had only one senior. What the Ags will need is dominate pitching which lacked last year as compared to the prior year.

I fully expect the pitching this year to return to form.

This is a very good team, maybe as good as two years back. I have watched them play some of their fall games, and I know some of the girls on this team.

With just a little luck, we will be very good, in fact maybe extrememly good. I will go out on a limb and say that this team is relatively loaded.

Get your mind out of the gutter. Talk. Discussion.

My daughter plays at Klein HS and plays for the MC Elite U18A team. We are in SAT right now suppodely to play in a showcase tournament, but the rain got to us today.

Yours?

My daughter only plays soccer now, but she used to play softball for her high school team. Then she, and a lot of other players, quit because no one liked the coach.

TC99-
Not knowing you or your daughter obviously, but that "liking the coach" issue is a big thing at a lot of schools. The reality is that a large number of coaches get entrenched in their positions, regardless of their record and how they teach, or don't teach, their athletes. It's a sad thing, really. I have always said that the quality of coaching is better at the select/club level than it is at the high school level. Of course this isn't true everywhere, but I think a lot of parents who have kids playing high school and club sports both would agree.

How is your dauughter doing in soccer, btw?

Yeah, it is a sad thing. I'm trying to find a club team she might want to play on, but right now I think she's happy with soccer. The season just started for her high school, they've played 3 games so far and she, as a midfielder, has scored one goal and assisted 2 (I think). How's you daughter doing in softball?

Well, thanks. She has had contact from schools at all levels (DI, DII, DIII and NAIA). She has her preferences as to where she would go, but just the fact that she might get an offer is enough for me. She has pitched and hit well recently and in fact, cleared the fence earlier today in a scrimmage- first time she has ever done that. She was so excited that she called me when I was at the airport in NOLA earlier today from her dugout. Oh well, good thing it was only a scrimmage and not a real game, because I would never live it down, missing her first HR that is. She is OK though. She will be at Jo's hitting camp this Sunday and we will see what happens there.

If your daughter wants to play at A&M, she should probably try to get on either Impact Gold or Katy Cruisers. Many of the A&M players come from these teams.

Kylew:

Are you talking about the Impact Gold group out of Spring Klein? Very talented group of ladies. Katy Cruisers are a great group also. She has tried out with the Impact group but so far no dice, but your point is well made.

We will see down the road. She does OK, she is getting better every season, not sure if she has the talent to play for a BIG XII school, but a McNeese, Midwestern St., UMHB, those would work. I have found over the past few years that softball recruiting is way different than football or basketball. There are so many schools playing softball now as opposed to 7-8 years ago that just about anybody can go somewhere to play. The determining factor is filling a need at a specific program and to demonstrate that you can be worked with to learn more than what you already know. Coaches strive on the teaching aspect at any level.
