I took it for a little over a year in Houston. It will be frustrating at first. Everything you know about modern sports is reverse. Its not about power, speed, or athleticism…but rather technique, patience and recognition.

After a month, or many months depending on your progress, you’ll all of a sudden “get it”. Its like a light goes off and you start seeing more submissions and openings.

Is Arthur your instructor?

Good luck.

Thats something ive always wanted to do and think i would enjoy. Not much choices of place to train at in B/CS that i know of. I dont really have the money anyway while in school.

what's the urban jungle?

when i was in school, we trained at a place in bryan (american institute of self defense under arthur murray), but i'm pretty sure that it's closed now...was fun while it lasted!

It's been pretty awesome so far. the Urban Jungle is in the Houston Heights. the owner is Tony Torres-Aponte and he usually instructs every class i've been in, but he does have a couple of brown belts that help teach as well.

There's BJJ and Muay Thai kickboxing.

cool place.
my kids are friends with their kids. We sometimes send our kids there during breaks from school for kiddie jiu-jitsu classes. Urban Jungle does a good job with them.

Yeah they have a kids class right before ours and it's great to watch them. If or when I have kids I would definitely send them there. They always look like they are having a lot of fun.
